We all know how the song goes:

:charac4:~Spider-Man, Spider-Man,
Does whatever a spider can...~
:charac4:

Not True!

Normal spiders do not have the power to speak, yet the Spider-Man character at Universal IOA has no problem talking. I always thought that the characters whose faces you couldn't see were always silent. Even the Power Rangers at MGM don't talk (this has been verified by the Disney Character Gestap.. er, I mean, Character Escorts), yet they're every bit people as the Marvel Super Heroes.

What makes Spider-Man special enough to be granted the gift of speech without a visible mouth to speak with?

i think because disney is more of a "magical park" and things like that the kids will notice. spiderman talks because he talks in the movies and he was that sarcastic edge. im not really sure. thats a good question. im sure someone will eventually verify why he really talks

It only says that he can do what a spider can do, no mention of things that a spider can't do.

Um, I was making a joke. I like to set up my posts with something clever to draw in readers like yourself. :rotfl:

We all know that theres a normal guy beneath the spiderman outfit.

Can the same be said for Mickey, Donald, etc.? ;)

LOL, I never thought about it, but I just have to say that when we had breakfast with Spiderman, I loved that he talked! He sounded exactly like Tobey Macguire.

Ds got to spend about 10 minutes with him and they talked about how Spiderman fixed his suit when Dr. Oc ripped it and how ds shouldn't go anywhere without his web slinger. They talked about how important breakfast is and reading and obeying your parents...

very easy to get caught up in the "MAGIC" ...

Is there any difference between Spiderman (and the rest of the super hero characters at US) and the Disney Princesses? The Princesses all talk so why shouldn't Spidey?!!! :confused3

Hey Guys if Spiderman talking gives the kids a happy time , what's the problem?
To see a smiling young face meeting their super-hero is what Universal is all about.

We saw him at IOA and he did sound just like him! The kids loved him and well lets just say he was "easy on the eyes" for mom as well. ;)

The original post brought up the point about face vs. "masked" characters. The princesses at WDW talk because they are face characters unlike the characters who wear masks such as Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Darkwing Duck.

USF has its share of face characters such as Marilyn Monroe, Doc Brown, Lucy/Desi, and the reali-life Opeye and Flintstones (not the iOA cartoon versions) As for the superheros, Spider-man is the only current one who wears a mask covering his entire face (we can see the eyes and mouth of Wolverine and Capt America, and the mouth of Cyclops, so I would classify them as face characters.

But, while Spiderman is masked, we all know based on the movies/comic books that its just a guy wearing a costume being a superhero. And, its not as hard to get the spidey voice as it is to get the voice of Goofy, Donald, etc. right. Plus, if Spidey's voice is a bit off, who is really going to notice?

IMO, if they had a Spiderman walking around who didn't speak to guests, it would feel a bit empty.

I like that last sentence, and I'm definitely for a talking Spider-Man as opposed to a mime one as seen in the 1970's TV-movies who speaks very little while in costume.

Another thing you should consider is that these are characters from a literary medium whose interpretations are open to whomever's performing the character while still remaining within the context of the character (Rogue with her southern accent, Wolverine's "tough guy" attitude, Captain America's all-American hero role).

it doesn't matter to me that spidey talks.

all i can say he is hot........

Thats a good point since these interpretations of the characters are from the comic book themselves and not the movies, cartoons, etc.

This thread will teach you not to attempt being facetious on the internet, eh? ;)

I have to agree with you here. I wouldn't mind seeing him everyday.

Um, you ladies do realize that's not Toby Maguire under the mask moonlighting at IOA, right? :rotfl:
