SPG points & upgrades

Has anyone done this? How soon or how late can I call to request the upgrade? I'd like to upgrade to club, if there is a room available, do they have to upgrade us or is there a quota, that they only allow so many upgrades on points? We'll be at the Swan 12/9-12/13, I know the resort is quite full, so I may be out of luck this time, but there's always next time.

I'm new using points...I have so many questions.

You can upgrade with points 5 days prior or at checkin. Call the Swan directly.

How many points do you need for an upgrade? DH is a Starwood member and this might work for us.

I think it is 1000 points per night to upgrade to CL.
