$ spent on food...

We usually just round things off, estimating each of us spending $10 for breakfast, $15 for lunch, and $20 for dinner if we are doing counter service, or places like Tangerine Cafe, Roaring Forks, the non-table service locations.

Plus, we get the refill mugs at the hotel for beverages.

We spent around $1000 for 7 days for 5 of us. I also had groceries delivered and we ate breakfast in the room.

I will agree that it is best to go to the menus and assume what you will eat. This is the best way to go.

A lot of factors will determine how much your food expense will be. If you eat at a lot of TS you will spend more money. If you share you will spend less money.

But one thing is for sure, I would assume that you get snacks because you never know when you will want to try something especially with all the ice cream and bakeries there are. And when you get snacks every day, those costs add up fast.

Our Group - 5 Adults, 1 Child, 1 Infant. 8 Days/7 Nights. We are eating at:

LeCellier, Beaches & Cream, Tony's, Jiko, Crystal Palace, Pinocchio's Village Haus, Backlot Express, Wolfgang Puck Express, Flame Tree BBQ, Earl of Sandwich and Artist's Palate.

Our Costs Break Down Like this

$41.14 - Appetizers
$795.77 - Entree
$21.99 - Dessert (Kitchen Sink)
$97.40 - Beverage
$67.36 - Kids Meals

Total OOP with tax & gratuity, less DDE Discount is: $1,057.78

We could/may trim a little more by sharing more sandwiches at CS locations. Right now we're only figured to share at Pinocchio's Village Haus and Wolfgang Puck Express.

We usually eat at one nice place each day (a family of 5 w/teens) so what used to cost us $100 for food is now about $200 with the price increases! So the dining plan will be great for us.

I forgot share the rest of the math.

DDP cost for us would be $1,399.58
DxDDP cost for us would be $2,589.58

We will save $532.95 OOP vs DDP
We will save $1,555.81 OOP vs DxDDP

We are leaving one TS credit on the table with our plan and this doesn't include the $126 of snacks that we'd be entitled to on the DDP. To be honest though last time we bought a bunch of snacks because they were paid for, and not because we were hungry for them :)

(Average TS Cost 5 Adults and 1 Child, including tax & 18% Gratuity, less DDE Discount - LeCellier $174.79, Beaches & Cream $90.36, Tony's $124.24, Jiko $200.16, Crystal Palace Lunch $144.43)

As a rule of thumb we spend a little more for DDP than we do when not on DDP, but it's almost a wash.

Hard to see these numbers in black & white, but here goes: December 15-22, 2007- 2 Adults, 2 kids (my kids are not picky eaters and sometimes order from the adult menu- we shared some, not much!), most mornings we had ceral bars or a bowl of cereal:

$912.64 on meals
$80.14 on snacks in the parks (water, ice cream, etc. & quite a few to take home)
$982.78 for 8 days= a bit over $120/day

We dined at the following locations:
Breakfast: Kona Cafe, Crystal Palace

Lunch: Concourse Steakhouse, Le Cellier, Rosies' All American Cafe, Earl of Sandwich, Flame Tree BBQ

Dinner: Cosmic Ray's, 'Ohana, San Angel (CP pkg), Liberty Tree Tavern, Electric Umbrella, UK Fish & Chips Kiosk, Backlot Express (airport: Outback)

When we last went as a family (5 of us) we spent something like 500 dollars for 6 days. We only at at CS and had very little snacks but did buy a lot of waters. We had 3 meals a day and the kids shared a lot.

When I went with my mom and dd (only 3 of us) we spent nearly 600 dollars for FIVE days. We ate at mostly TS places that trip. It all depends on where and what you eat.

My next trip we are doing DDP for three of us because I want to do more TS meals, so it works out.

We are eating breakfast in our resort 5 of the 6 days, we are eating 4 tables service and the rest are counter service and a snack a day. This is for 2 adults and 3 kids and I have a total of around 900.00 for 6 days. Two of the kids are considered adults.

DH and I budget $150 a day for the two of us, but that includes a few adult beverages each at Epcot, a table service dinner, counter service lunch, and resort food court breakfast. We also have the Disney Dining Experience card, which saves us 20% on the table service dinner and the food court breakfast.

for those of you who didnt choose the dining plan, how much would you say was actually spent on food?

I calculated the daily cost of food on my last two trips to WDW. We are two adults and two children (3 and 4 now as well as at the time of the trip), we don't really eat breakfast but buy fruit or baked goods and juice, we almost always eat a CS lunch, and prefer a CS dinner. We always have about 3 TS meals per weeklong trip (about 6 on our next trip! :scared: )

Our daily food costs were always in the $75- $100/day range. It was closer to the $100 when we did TS (we usually made an effort to spend less on snacks and meals that day) and closer to $75 if we just did CS and snacks all day (no real limit on what we bought). We bought at least a couple of Mickey ice cream bars and several waters/sodas every day with that. An eight day/7 night trip would cost us anywhere from $600 - $800. The meal plan would cost us $768 for 8 days.

I spent less $35 a day (went for a little over a week) However I did the Buffets at lunch time or right before dinner so we could get the lunch price. Then we just grabbed a burger & a few snacks later on. I also had sent my drinks there a week before I went so there was never buying anything to drink either. I was a bit bummed about the ddp but no day, did I go over $35.00. I was stuffed too! I should note though that I went w/ friends so we each paid individually- I know it can be an entirely different story w/ families price wise. Personally we WANTED the buffets anyway so it wasn't a big deal to us, even if we got the DDP, we still would've picked the buffets in each park- which were all excellent btw & the cost is perfec :thumbsup2
