Hi all,
DH and I are in the process of buying land/building a house and are trying to decide on a spending money budget for our trip. We've paid for flights, accomm, car hire in a couple of places and disneyworld tics so this is purely meals and spending money. How much would you budget for the below?? Or how much do you usually allow per day in the US. It's just the two of us.
3 days LA
4 nights San Diego
5 nights Vegas (budgeting fir gambling $ separately)
Road trip to Grand Canyon and New Mexico 4 nights
5 nights New York
6 nights WDW
8 nights in Cuba
3 nights all inclusive Cancun

Any advice would be great, ta!

Hi,

In NY we allowed $200 a day for three of us. This covered food, subway, tips and 'souvenirs'. Some days we were way under - and others over depending on if we included a restaurant meal.

This did not included attractions as I pre-purchased the city pass and the food walking tour tickets.

Budgeting is so hard because some places are dearer than others and it also depends on whether you like to eat at nicer restaurants or happy with fast food etc, some grocery shopping/meals in rooms etc.

I would budget $150 for meals which would well and truly cover it unless fine dining. As for spending money, wow, not sure. My DH likes to shop so budgeting is impossible with him around.

We've budgeted $5000 for food and spending money for 16 days for the 3 of us.this is our first US trip though so I didn't really have much of an idea. The hope is that I have over budgeted but I'd rather that than paying a credit card off for months afterwards.

you can buy MANY taco's at taco bell for 5K.....

Thanks for your replies everyone! Originally I was allowing $200 a day but I'm thinking now with the house buying we can manage on less. Think we might plan on spending $6000 for the 6 weeks, allowing $5000 for the 4 weeks in the US and then $1000 for the Cuba/Mexico part since a lot is already included there. Does that sound reasonable?? Or would we be missing out on too much. As long as that covers a quick easy brekkie, lunch and probably a sit down dinner (but cheapie places are fine, just not maccas every night!) and some attractions etc we should be fine. That saves us a couple of thousand, but we'll still have it in the bank in case we do need it anyway. Just want to have something to aim for!

we usually budget $100.00/day for food, and a flat rate of $3000 for souvenirs/spending money... we were very conscious of luggage limits :)
