Spending Money, What do you do?

I quite like the look of the mytravel cash prepaid card because there are no atm charges but not sure I like the idea of them charging me £2 every month if I don't use the card for 12 months.

im unsure whats best.... there is an account u can have that is no fee.... but seems daft for one holiday....

the travel money card also is good, but what if i load too much cash onto it?? i have to either withdraw it all in euros, or close the card and pay a charge to get my remaining cash (from what i can see)....

think im gonna just order sum currency, then charge the rest to room and use my nationwide card - it has the lowest rate out of all my cards!!

Yes, because you're only using your card once.

This is true to an extent. I think they have a daily limit, not sure how much (think its possibly over €300) If this is reached they will charge your card then to make sure they get the money.

Nationwide shouldn't charge you to use your card as its in Europe, they only charge outside of Europe:thumbsup2

So just to clarify, if I charged my purchases to my room, and paid it all in one lump sum at the end, it counts as one charge rather than multiple purchases yes?

Interesting info, never thought about it that way heh. But rather useful to know for our trip

You're right, I can remember the CM saying it when we checked in last year, I think it was either €300 or €350.

For those not using fee free cards - I don't think it's so vital to have it all as one charge if you're paying by credit card as the rate will be loaded by a percentage and will total the same amount irrespective of how many transactions but if you're using a debit card then I think there's also a transaction fee each time as well as the rate being loaded.

Also would you have to pay at the end with a credit card or could you pay in cash? I would rather take a large amount of euros with us, leave them in the safe and pay it all off at the end with those than take out a credit card.

I see no reason why you couldn't pay it off with cash although you're going to have to leave a card against your room reservation when you check in in order to be able to use this facility. To be honest though, I wouldn't be wanting to go abroad without a credit card, especially when booking travel etc independently. Look at all those people who got stranded with the ash cloud fun a couple of years ago.
