So, if I’m understanding things correctly, it’s okay to criticize one country & its citizens every time the opportunity is there, but it’s not okay for those citizens of that country to ever discuss the citizens of another country,

Totally. The piece I quoted wasn't intended to imply that I share the hostility towards the actress; just to express my disgust with this wretched piece of work. And I actually feel quite sorry for whoever played the pathetically sinister and incredibly chinless equerry guy... :scared:

No, I didn’t think you shared that view.

I was responding to the report that Harry doesn’t want to risk running into Kristen Stewart. He shouldn’t blame her for her portrayal of his mother. She was following a script written by others. Blame them.

If he happens to encounter the actress, do what Meghan suggests. Be brief and polite.

And why are Harry and Meghan even invited to the Oscars? I suppose they have celebrity friends, but they have nothing to do with the production or promotion of any of the nominated films.

Then again, those type of events always have notorious attention seekers and hangers-on with dubious connection to the supposed purpose.

That's what I was thinking. Sure it might be a human reaction to have even if you can think "she's an actress just doing her part" but it's kinda making it a whole big affair on something that probably wouldn't have happened. I guess though if he thinks he can't hold it in in the rare event he actually is within close proximity to her I suppose it's better to just not go.

Didn't the Grammy's just get cancelled altogether due to Covid? I guess if they just end up mailing out the Oscar's it won't be an issue for anybody.

popcorn::Anyways, I hope some of you do go ahead and watch the movie and tell me what you think of it. That's the discussion I was clumsily trying to start originally. The CB never ceases to amaze. :disrocks:

We saw it....thought it was a bit much with respect to the production. We did think Kristen Stewart was quite good in it though. She really did manage to achieve an affect of Diana without really looking much like her. The accent from this American's perspective seemed pretty good as well. I'd give the movie a 5/10 overall though. We've had a couple of misses lately....another was The Lost Daughter. In that one, Olivia Coleman was great, but the overall movie was an "ehh" for us.

I saw it in a theatre. I did not like the shooting style or the music. I thought Stewart did a good job with what she had to work with. I did not like the Diana portrayed in the movie. She was a nut job who did not listen to any advice given. I agree nobody was very nice and Diana came across as spoiled and wanting to do things her way or no way. The whole movie centers around one weekend. It felt very disjointed.

Would you consider this movie Oscar bait? As in made solely to have a chance at winning one or more Oscars?

Historical pictures, with a lot of melodrama, a star vehicle around a famous person, a main character with mental problems, it ticks at least these boxes.

How did you watch it? Please don’t say with your eyes :duck:

That's exactly what we said....for Kristen Stewart in particular. It felt like an Oscar vehicle to us.

On-demand. We have Shaw cable and pay-per-view movies are $6.99 for 48 hours. I checked my multitude of free services first but it wasn't available anywhere free just yet. I think Prime rents it for $4.99 but it was just easier to do it the other way for me.

Based on the reviews, I think I'll wait until it pops up free somewhere and then maaayyyyyybe watch it. I was really interested until I heard that it was mostly fictionalized. I can't imagine what that's got to be like. My grandpa worked on trains all his life and I sure wouldn't want someone making a movie about him that was mostly made up.

All the specific events depicted are fiction, which the creators make clear. The tag line of the movie is "A Fable From a True Tragedy". And honestly, the way they rendered absolutely everybody, Diana included, is just awful. :sad2:

I can't stand Kristen Stewart so I won't be seeing this movie but honestly, if it were someone else playing Diana I probably wouldn't watch either. I prefer to leave her in the past (loved her, but don't need her memory dragged through the mud time and time again).

I was set to see it in the theatres, especially due to the early buzz surrounding Stewart's portrayal. But after hearing it was one weekend, humourless, one writer's whim on what happened - well I went scrap that.

And I also feel like bcwife about enough, leave it all be. But I am hypocrite as I had planned to see it, watch The Crown and catch some of the documentaries.

Utterly heart wrenching and I don't believe for a minute any loving mother with a shred of her faculties left would put their child in that position.

I obviously do not know what or how they portrayed their relationship, but it is widely reported that Diana inappropriately leaned on William and made him too much of a confidante during her trials with his father. Reported, a la who the heck knows where the truth lies.

And quite frankly I have seen the same dynamic play out around me. It is not the right choice, not loving of a parent, brings great stress to a child but is not totally uncommon - unfortunately.

Again acknowledging the movie events were fictional, it was really quite shocking and heartbreaking. If even part of it was realistic, it's surprising William isn't the damaged and overwrought one. :scratchin
