Speed traps on property!

Seems as though we are WAYYYYY off topic. "speed trap " is not inflammatory.

I was simply pointing out the fact that I had not seen this done ON Disney property before.

It most certainly is inflamatory, enforcement of speed limits are not speed traps.

Might be more difficult to manage camera enforcement in such a high tourist area, especially with the higher percentage of rental cars.

They have no trouble collecting tolls from people using photo enforcement. How is collecting speeding fines any different?

The term "speed trap" implies that something unfair is going on. Traditionally, a "speed trap" means that there's an artificially low speed limit and that tickets are being issued to raise revenue, not to promote safe driving.

As this thread demonstrates, some people use the term "speed trap" to refer to any location where speed limits are enforced frequently. Fair enough, but that's not the real definition of "speed trap."

Tolls are issued to the vehicle, speeding fines (and other violations) are to the driver.

Not sure how it works in Florida but in Washington the photo enforced speeding fines are levied on the registered owner of the vehicle. Not the driver.

A speed trap is any area where the police clock you from a concealed position. Look up the Webster's definition. It most certainly is not inflammatory.

Then we still have the same problem with rental cars that I was trying to address. I don't know about the Florida law specifics myself.

Like the concept is the same with the license plate enforced toll. I just think legally a user fee like a toll and an infraction like a speeding violation would be two different ballparks. There would be little benefit for the rental car companies to cooperate either. They can at least up charge for the transponders, being on the hook for fines that they then have to spend time and money tracking down renters for repayment is just a money pit. We all know how strong the tourism lobby can be in central Florida.

I know up here in Ontario one of the issues making the police reluctant to bring back in photo radar is being able to prove the plate is correct, and so on. The time the officer ends up
Spending in court negates the advantage of doing it remotely in the first place. Much stronger evidence can be given with a first hand account.
Same with the red light cameras.
