The speed ferries are great, but do get cancelled regularly due to bad weather. Usually if this happens, you will be accomodated on a conventional ferry at he time. Given the weather at the moment, it will probably be grand in October
I have known them to cancel crossing too due to "technical reasons" even when the weather was good. If that happens I imagine they have to make alternative arrangements like the ferry & eurotunnel do.
We've used speedferries several times to get back 'home' to UK. Never had a problem, although a couple of the crossings were somewhat 'bumpy' (not good if, like me, boats aren't your thing )
They also do special offers which would possibly appeal to AP holders, where you can buy x amount of crossing up front for x amount of pounds and this guarantees the price for 2 years
I've done a large number of crossings on ferries over the years (I used to live on an island and had to take a ferry to get off the island, and have taken them in many countries, crossing some wild waters). The Dover ferry was the only one ever to make me feel ill; I recall a lot of 'hostesses' walking around with trays of filled vomit bags! (This was in spring, with moderate winds)
I don't know what it was about that particular ferry on that particular route, but it still stands out in my memory!
