Speechless

can you shoot rats? how about coyotes in your yard? what about crows the size of turkeys that I've seen scoop up and eat baby ducks (i'm still traumatized by that one!)? rabid dogs like ole yeller?

where's the line? are feral cats safe because some are domesticated? i'm just curious...don't plan on shooting anything. i did just buy a flyswatter...is that okay?

op----no advice. good luck.

No, Kari, you need to catch the flies and put them back outside so they can live out their 24 hours in peace.

I also don't plan on shooting anything, I just liked Kari's analogy. ;)

Would you rather let the animals suffer - freeze to death - fight with each other - scrounge around in trash for food - spread disease that harms humans - destroy property or die and quick painless death?

I'd rather they have a humane death. If it meant it cost me $40, so be it.
Far less gruesome than blowing an animal's brains out.

Truthfully, I think about the only reason any animal should be shot is if it was attacking.

As far as animals eating other animals...that's nature. Maybe we don't like seeing the crow eat the baby duck, but it is what happens in nature. Something getting shot is not natural, since the thing you're shooting generally doesn't have a weapon.

FTR, I try not to kill bugs either. I try to catch them and release them outside.

Well, for one thing, shooting a cat is illegal, as is shooting a coyote, at least where I live. I would imagine there could be some possible firearms violations as well, depending on who owns the gun and where it's being discharged. ;)

Chrissie, I guess you picked the right word for the title of this thread. :cat:

Every carpet guy I've ever talked to reccomended 1cup vinegar + 1 cup water and saturate the area. There is something in the vinegar that helps to neutralize the smell.

Nature's Miracle also works well.

I've used vinegar and water, it works if you really get it down into the padding.

Completely off topic here: Amanda! What a wonderful picture of Chloe and Minnie! Wow!

so the baby duck deserves to live, but not the crow?

I can't say which side I am on here - I hate to see any animal die, but I abhor the thought of feral (and tame) cats outside killing the native songbird population.

And for anyone who is against the death of a feral cat, I will assume you are all vegetarians? Because why should a cat have more of a chance to live than what you eat?

I knew that's what you were going to say so let me tell you what I've done. I've kept a few, I've caught and domesticated other and then had people adopt them. I've never had to bring them to the pound but I would if there was no alternative.

What I would never ever do is shoot one. All life is cheapened by the cost cutting bullet to the head of an animal who's only crime was to be born.

But you just keep telling yourself you're doing the humane thing. I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight.

The controversy was less about the death of a cat than it was about shooting a cat.

But I agree kmbound is probably just :stir:

Guess you aren't too big on hunting, huh? Not that I am into shooting a cat or anything, but there are many many cities here in MN that have opened up deer hunting to bow hunters in order to control their population. Their "natural" enemies are not very prevalent in say, Bloomington and they are taking over the place. Of course, cattle aren't exactly armed either soooo........

idk about it but replace that section of the carpet if it wasnt a big spot and just keep an eye out for a wile use Febreez to get rid of the smell:thumbsup2

well, to expound, shooting is a lot less painful and a lot more humane than the treatment and death of animals on factory farms.

I just find it interesting how people can value some animals lives so greatly, but not others.

And thanks KariC :) It is one of my favorites

I won't disagree.

Boy, this thread is like a bad Six Degrees of Separation game.

Carpet > Cat > Shooting > Fly Swatter > Cake > Vegetarianism > Hunting > Animal Factory Farms. I can barely keep up!

People without souls???

Okay I am all about not shooting the cats. I also send buggies outside, because I can't stand to squish 'em.......even flies if I can open the door and get them out.

But I grew up on a farm where it was commonplace to shoot cats instead of provide veterinary care. They were not immunized. I remember specifically distemper and a favorite fluffy white kitten. My foster brother was the one to put it out of its misery. He was not soulless. He was a young teen doing what he thought had to be done. There were no pounds out there. There were vets, but we had no money, transport or permission to visit them with a cat.

You can't just say people who think differently than you have no soul. Who are you to judge the state of their soul or lack thereof?

Unfortunately, people who post inflammatory, offensive things are going to get angry responses in return (not meaning you, but the PPs who are stirring the pot). It's all part of free speech. Don't let it get to you.
This is what happens when the trolls are fed. :confused3

Yep, I'll remove myself from the feeding frenzy. :thumbsup2

Everybody try to have a nice day!
