When we were at EPCOT recently they had people giving a demonstration of a speech recognition program (by IBM?) at one of the Innovention sides (east? west?)

Does anyone know the name of it? DH thought he wrote it down but now he can't find it. We thought the program was real cool and very reasonably priced and we would like to get it once we know the name.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

What kind of speech recognition is it? For example, I work in foreign language learning software development, and we use voice recognition in some of our projects. Are you talking about something along those lines?

It was a program where you could talk and the program would write what you said. It could also move words around, italicize, bold, change font size, etc. We thought it would be great for our ds11, an aspergers kid who loves to write, but who also likes to pace and talk out loud for his stories. He was facinated while watching the demo and dh & I thought it was cool and very reasonably priced - not lots of $$$$$.

Mike - that just might be it! Do you have any experience with the program?

I just sent the link to DH - when he was asking about it this morning he suggested I ask the folks on the DIS, as so many times we have been able to get answers here.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I don't know if it was ViaVoice or a Dragon Naturally Speaking product, maybe it was something else. I've used Dragon before & it works terrifically, even with background noise. The only thing that happened with me--I had a slight cold and when I would sneeze it would type Gorbachev, lol!!!

Edited to add, it works great for my 9 yo DS with AS. :)

That is hilarious! I love it!

I recently hurt my arm and was having a very hard time typing, but had some deadlines, so I had to write somehow...so I tried the Microsoft Voice Recognition that came on the computer. It seemed to work pretty well on the computer in my office where it is fairly quiet but when working on the laptop in the living room (in the recliner, what a comfy way to work!) it took off on it's own and started typing what the TV was saying and ignoring me completely! I went back to the slow hunt and peck left-handed typing!

It's definitely Viavoic, but other than knowing that I'm afraid I have no experience of it. When the CM, Amanda, used it during our visit it wa very impressive though.

Hope you find more info soon.

mike :)
