SpectroMagic viewing advice

Now that the April hours are out, we're planning on finally getting to see SpectroMagic! DH may still be traumatized by our MSEP experience in 2000. Does anyone have any helpful hints on where to view this, and how far in advance to grab a spot?

We have always sat directily in front of the castle (actually opposing the castle) with our "bum" on the edge of the curb so no one could get in front of us. No one is allowed on the street and if you are on the curb the most that people can do is stand behind you. I also hate to tell you but we grab a spot between 1 1/2 - 2 hours before the scheduled start. We waste time with snacks and light up toys for the kids. It is an incredible show and this is an AWESOME spot. Have a great trip!!!

I like standing around Frontierland - then I jump on Big Thunder and Splash Mountain while people are watching the fireworks! It's less crowded than Main Street, but you still need to get there early - how early depends on what the crowd level is.

We pull up curb right near Casey's on Main Street. Usually a good full hour to 75 minutes ahead of time. If there's limited showings of Spectro that week, the grab time for a sitting spot on Main Street could run you almost 90 minutes out.

I have seen Spectro in liberty square, frontierland, the hub, and main street...I think my favorite place was seeing it on Mainstreet below the train station. I watched it there about 2 weeks ago and it was neat to see the parade come out by the car barn. It was also nice to see the parade right away a lot of parents thought it started down by Frontier like SADCT, but were very happy when I said it starts on Main Street. If you are traveling at a busy time of year I would grab a spot an hour ahead of time or as soon as you noticed people filling up the area you want to sit in.

1. I like to watch Spectro sitting on the curb facing down the road to Liberty Square. The parade makes a turn there, and if you look right you see the fronts of the floats with the castle behind it. Look left and you see the backs of the floats (which are really neat - how many of you have noticed the Cheshire Cat before??)

2. If there are two showings, the second one is almost always less attended. I've walked up to front row seats in Liberty Square just as the lights went out for the parade. (I can't always cut it that close, but usually 10-15 minutes is plenty early).

3. If you've seen the parade up close, try watching it from far away. I like the Plaza Pavillion (I usually try to get Wishes seats there, those also work for Spectro). There are so many details you can't see close up! Musical notes coming out of the piano - fireworks over the last several floats. Beautiful stuff!

So, all that said, which is my favorite? It really depends on the day - if it's been a busy full day and I'm with a friend I haven't seen in forever, I'll take option 1 or 3. Lots of good talking/eating/resting time built in. If I've got to have one last ride on the Haunted Mansion, I take option 2.
