I've read so many threads about shoes at WDW but now my DH is thinking he wants to get some Dr. Scholl's inserts if they are comfy. Anyone have experience with any over-the-counter (non doctor prescribed) inserts/orthotics? Can you give my DH any advice on which are best? He has short fat feet like me :goodvibes but with medium arches. Forgot to add he will mostly wear crocs, running shoes, and clarks sandals. Thanks!

TIA

This is probably not exactly what you are looking for, but I purchased some from my Mom's Podiatrist (foot doctor) for $30... they aren't truly "Dr. prescribed" (those can be really expensive) but they are a higher quality than what you can buy at normal stores. I bet you could call a foot Dr. and just ask if you could out-and-out purchase them without actually making an appointment. The worst they can say is no. :goodvibes: And he would use them long after your Disney trip too...so you'll get your money's worth. Prior to that I had tried a couple of "commercial inserts" (I think one was Dr. Scholl's and one was the gel kind) and they did nothing for me. These have been great.

Another thing to know, and I felt so silly after I realized this: you have to take the factory inserts that come with your tennis shoes OUT of the shoe, and then put the new inserts in. Boy, was I feeling like a genius that day!

Edited to add: I could be wrong, but I don't think you can use inserts in crocs (unless they had high sides?) or sandals...what would keep them from slipping out of the shoe?

I would like to know if anyone has tried those inserts where stand on a machine and it tells you what's wrong with your feet. I've seen the machines at Walmart. The inserts have different numbers. I can't remember their name, but they advertise them on TV. They're almost $50, so that's why I haven't tried them.

Something I discovered the other day. If you're like me and don't like the nubbies on the insides of Crocs(they hurt my feet). Make you a pair of insoles with the kid's craft foam(I just happened to have lime green) that you get at craft store. It's very thin so it doesn't take up any room, but make a nice smooth interior.:thumbsup2

My DH has had many different types of orthotics including those prescribed by a podiatrist (who also happens to be a friend). The doctor prescribed ones never felt good for him. He liked the ones he got at The Good Feet store, but loves his newest purchase. He got them at The Walking Company. He also bought shoes from them too. He is a pediatrician and is on his feet all day long. He pretty much has had a life long problem with his feet and I have never seen him happier. We are going back to the store on Sunday and will be buying orthotics for myself and my youngest DD. My oldest DD has the ones from Walmart and is pretty happy with them too!

I have never wanted to have to get these orthotics but lately my feet have been very sore when walking around at Disneyland. We are going to be at Disneyworld in 2 weeks and I want to be comfortable.

I for one love my Dr Scholl's. I use the heel inserts and it has helped tremendously with my knees and ankles. Honestly, I can tell the difference in just a couple of hours if I don't have them in. I would definitely recommend them. Well worth the $5-$10 they cost at Wal-mart. The only thing that I sometimes have issues with is whether they stick/stay in place in the shoe. Make sure the bottom of your shoe is clean/dry when you put them in and make sure your shoe is laced up securely when you first where them.

As a Physical Therapist, I often recommend the brand Spenco. They have a harder plastic arch that is very supportive and can be custom molded to the foot and a softer cover that cushions the foot. Get the whole foot bed, not the 3/4 size in any brand that you buy.

Crocs inserts - wonderful !!!!!

Availablle online.

Don't get the Walgreens brand ... I had a pair pretty much disintegrate after wearing them for 1 day.
