I was responding to a thead called "birthday" when one poster stated that you can no longer have specialty cakes delivered to a character meal.
Now, I did PM this poster and he gave me some answers, but not the one I was looking for as for as WHEN this policy was put into place.
Last month I ordered 2 specialty cakes for my upcoming trip. One for my DD at 1900 Park Fare - I ordered a 10" cake with a white chocolate Cinderella crown and slipper cake topper - I've seen pics of it and have read of others ordering (AND RECEIVING) it!!!
The other cake I ordered is from the MK bakery for our dinner at Crystal Palace. I ordered an8" cake with an image of the Haunted Mansion/Hitchhiking Ghosts on it for my DS's birthday.
Now, when I ordered these cakes, the CM's were friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating. There was not even the slightest trace that these orders were NOT acceptable. And from all I've ever read on the DISboards, it seems like this is a very common occurence! (You know - folks ordering "special cakes" for a special celebration for a loved one.
Now the reason this other poster stated that the specialty cakes were not being done any more was that:
1. They're hard to keep track of.
2. That other children at the meals were getting upset/crying because they wanted a cake too.
Now #1 seems like a management issue that can easily be dealt with.
#2 to me seems ridiculous. For one thing, at ALL the character meals I've been to, the kids (including mine) are all focused on they're food and the characters - my kids more on the characters. Really they could care LESS about what's going on at another person's table let alone take notice if another kid got a "specialty" cake. ALSO, the poster told me that I would still be able to get the standard 6" $12.50 cake at the character meals. So I ask, in all fairness, what is the difference if it's the standard cake or a specialty cake with the likeness of my child's/husband's/best friend's favorite character??? AND.......don't all these character meals offer cupcakes with candles and singing and signed cards/certificates from the characters?!?!
Now if I am willing and WANTING to shell out $40 - 50 -60 -70 for a SPECIALTY cake at ANY meal, then gosh darnit, I should be able to!!!
(OK - I admit, I am MAJORLY fired up over this).
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Am I overreacting to a non-truth? Anyone have the real scoop? I want those cakes I ordered!!!
THANKS for listening and bearing with me throught this rant!
