I was responding to a thead called "birthday" when one poster stated that you can no longer have specialty cakes delivered to a character meal.

Now, I did PM this poster and he gave me some answers, but not the one I was looking for as for as WHEN this policy was put into place.

Last month I ordered 2 specialty cakes for my upcoming trip. One for my DD at 1900 Park Fare - I ordered a 10" cake with a white chocolate Cinderella crown and slipper cake topper - I've seen pics of it and have read of others ordering (AND RECEIVING) it!!!

The other cake I ordered is from the MK bakery for our dinner at Crystal Palace. I ordered an8" cake with an image of the Haunted Mansion/Hitchhiking Ghosts on it for my DS's birthday.

Now, when I ordered these cakes, the CM's were friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating. There was not even the slightest trace that these orders were NOT acceptable. And from all I've ever read on the DISboards, it seems like this is a very common occurence! (You know - folks ordering "special cakes" for a special celebration for a loved one.

Now the reason this other poster stated that the specialty cakes were not being done any more was that:
1. They're hard to keep track of.
2. That other children at the meals were getting upset/crying because they wanted a cake too.

Now #1 seems like a management issue that can easily be dealt with.

#2 to me seems ridiculous. For one thing, at ALL the character meals I've been to, the kids (including mine) are all focused on they're food and the characters - my kids more on the characters. Really they could care LESS about what's going on at another person's table let alone take notice if another kid got a "specialty" cake. ALSO, the poster told me that I would still be able to get the standard 6" $12.50 cake at the character meals. So I ask, in all fairness, what is the difference if it's the standard cake or a specialty cake with the likeness of my child's/husband's/best friend's favorite character??? AND.......don't all these character meals offer cupcakes with candles and singing and signed cards/certificates from the characters?!?!

Now if I am willing and WANTING to shell out $40 - 50 -60 -70 for a SPECIALTY cake at ANY meal, then gosh darnit, I should be able to!!!

(OK - I admit, I am MAJORLY fired up over this).

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Am I overreacting to a non-truth? Anyone have the real scoop? I want those cakes I ordered!!!

THANKS for listening and bearing with me throught this rant!

ALSO,

This is on the "picture of birthday cakes" thread. It's recent - maybe a few weeks to a month old - information. Come on - someone has to have some idea about what's going on with these cakes!

If your dining experience is less than 72 hours away, you can order a "delicious and festive 6" cake upon your arrival." You may place your order with the podium Host or Hostess when you check in for your dining reservation. The cost of the cake is $12.50 plus tax.

More than 72 hours, from your dining experience you can special order a cake.

Sizes:
8" (serves 10) $25 plus tax
10: (serves 16) $40 plus tax
1/4 Full Sheet Cake (serves 20) $55 plus tax
1/2 Full Sheet Cake (serves 40) $80 plus tax

You can choose chocolate or vanilla cake AND standard buttercream icing or chocolate buttercream icing.

You can add the edible character(s) image that you want to the cake for a price of $8 for each image. They apologize but Winnie the Pooh characters are NOT available at this time.

You can add an inscription to the above cakes (e.g., Happy Birthday Joe, Happy Anniversary Dick and Jane). BUT only 2 names can be inscribed on an individual cake.

There is also the Mickey Mouse (Head) Cake. Mickey Mouse Cake $45 plus tax. NOTE: Inscriptions are NOT available on the Mickey Cake.

There is no phone number to talk to a real live person. But allegedly someone will call you back during business hours 8am-4pm ET, closed weekends and federal holidays.

I called both GF Private Dining and the MK Bakery line this morning to confirm my "specialy cakes" for our character meals at 1900 and CP. Both of my orders are in the system. Both CM's told me that YES they are still serving these specialty cakes at the meals. The CM I spoke to at the MK Bakery said, "We're the ones who take and execute the orders. We haven't been told that this is NOT available." This was after I told her what someone on here told me about doing away with this sort of thing.

She did go on to say that if a character were to bring out the cake to the child, THEN that might cause a problem, but usually if the server brings it out, then it's FINE!!!

I am so relieved that my kids WILL get their specialty cakes at our character dinners with Cindy and Pooh!!! I will definitley post pics when we get back! I hope this cleared up any confusion anyone else may have had!!!

Thanks for all the info! I want to order my parents an anniversary cake for our CRT lunch. Which number did you call to make the original cake requests? Did you do when it making the ADRs?
Thanks!!

In my experience, if you call dining and tell them that you want to order a cake for x occasion for a meal at x restaurant they will generally give you the number to that restaurant or the applicable bakery. If not, hang up and call back.

Thanks to the OP for setting all that straight. I had read the post that you're referring to (the one stating this service had stopped) and was pretty sure that wasn't the case. Good to know people will still be able to get those cakes for their celebrations. :thumbsup2

To order a cake for CRT, and if you don't want the standard 6" cake with Mickey on it, call the MK Bakery at 407-824-7091. I was able to get an 8" cake. I'm sure you can get 6, 8 or 10" cakes depending on your needs. Start by telling them what you want then go from there. I'm sure they're able to do A LOT!
