I debated putting this on the resorts board, but decided against it. I know there are a lot of people who have experience in the resorts there, but I'm not interested in hearing from people who LOVE these resorts. I'm interested in hearing about the adult and solo traveler aspect.

So... I'm taking a special 6 night solo trip in August for my b-day and decided to splurge on a deluxe resort. This is so unlike me, I usually just go with whatever's cheapest, but since it's my 'old lady day' I figured why not?? I've narrowed it down to Poly garden view or CR tower room.

Which would you choose and why? If you have another suggestion, I'd love to hear it. Haven't really thought much about it, just that I want to make it a special trip, and figured I'd get some input from others.

Cheers!

I personally have stayed at both. They each have their own atmosphere.

The Poly Garden is nice because I love walking thru the gardens and looking at everything. You can walk to the Ceremonial House for the monorail or if your house is closer to the TTC you can walt there. I had a garden Lagoon room and could see firworks over Castle and see the lights change sat night fromt he Balcony.

The Towers are nice because it doesnt require much walking to the monorail. Depends on the mind set of the trip. Relax and be able to take everything in at the resort or get to the parks quicker so you can take all of that in. Personal tranquility.

What are your interests that might help.

I don't have much of an agenda at this point. Won't be crazy park stuff all week. I have 4 trips planned for this year, so it's not a 'gotta do everything' trip. I'm planning a big trip for June with my nephew for his 10th b-day, but just realized that I have to start thinking of August because my 180 day window just openend.

I know it isn't one of the choices, but I would choose Boardwalk Villas for a solo trip. Several reasons...(1) all the walking is indoors and it just feels safer...not a big issue at disney, but still...(2) it is convient to Epcot and MGM, and (3) you are close to so much - lots of restaurant choices, activities on the Boardwalk and so on.

Although, with the monorail, you get lots of easy choices too! I can't wait to hear what you decide.

I won't do the Cont. wait until they complete rehab it.

I also love the Polyn.... but it is so darn expensive....

I would go with WL - if you want to be near MK.

or AKL - now if you hate animals - forget both choices.

but each place has some things for solos to do. both have a tour of their resorts. both have fun places to eat at. both have nice pools. I like WL more but that is personal. Plus (one thing I really like) they are the most reasonable priced of the WDW deluxe resorts.

there is also OKW if you just want to relax. I do love OKW - but for solo the other DVC resorts studio are a better choice. instead of 2 queen beds you get one queen bed and a double sleeper sofa....always a great choice for a solo trip.

Reasons I narrowed it down to those two...

BW - I live in a summer tourist town that has a carnival type seaside thing.

Y&BC - Again, I live on the coast of Maine. I've spent weeks on lighthouses. My father has a sailboat that we vacationed on every summer. The whole nautical thing just doesn't excite me.

Plus I can get a decent discount for the Dolphin/Swan and so being in that area isn't a big deal.

WL & AKL - are the cheaper of the deluxes and the "most likely" resorts for when I travel with certain family people.

I've been on three solo trips and feel very comfortable walking outside, so having an inside corridors isn't necessary. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Poly, but it seems to change every night. LOL My very first visit to WDW, the first thing we did was to eat breakfast at 'Ohana. I fell in love with the resort then, but was always too expensive to justify it. Now with my b-day, I feel I deserve it. Though I am hoping for an AP discount or at the least the AAA rate.

I thought the CR was supposed to be finished rehab this month. Has this changed? If so, that would definitely seal its fate for this trip.

Thanks for all the input. I truly had NO idea which to choose.

Cheers!

They are only working on the South Wing. I would much prefer the CT over Poly; one reason is everything is just an elevator ride away. Also I consider the Concourse Steakhouse the most underrated restaurant on property.

After reflecting on your initial question, the responses and then your responses, I am going to cop out and say I can't honestly give you a difinitive reason for one over the other.

1. I personally like the Poly and would choose it if costs are equal with CR
2. CR is more action oriented and not as romantic as the Poly. So if you get mushy eyed without your SO then CR is a better choice
3. CR is closest to the Transportation and Ticket Center Resort Monorail-wise and thusly to the Epcot monorail
4. Poly you can walk to the Epcot Monorail

CR is renovating but so is Poly. Cr is doing the south wings and floor by floor in the tower. Poly is doing longhouse by long house

UGH!! I know!!!!! LOL I honestly can't see why one is better than the other. No SO so no getting mushy eyed. Maybe I'll just let my niece pick for me.

Cheers!

maine_jennifer,

Lol, sorry I couldn't be more help. How about this. If you could, in a blink of an eye be transferred to your choice locations for a vacation and had your choice of staying in Miami, Australia, New York City, Napa Valley, Montana, New Zealand, or Los Angelas. Which would you pick and why?

I don't like the contemporary so i could never recommend it.
I haven't stayed in the Poly for 30 years, so i can't comment on it either.

but if i were going solo i'd go with the GF.....better yet, the GF concierge.

If you do decide on the poly or CR, I'd still go with concierge if i were you. That's really making it special. Also, in the CR, you need the key to get the elevator to go to the concierge floor.

I like both the CR and the Poly for different reasons. First of all I enjoy the comfort of watching fireworks having room service out on my balcony while staying at the CR, MK view. It's always so much easier than staying in the park and fighting the crowds IMO. I enjoy the Poly if I'm going to spending more time at the pool and having drinks and lounging. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either choice. Since you travel to Disney several times a year as do we why not pick one resort for this trip then choose the other for your next trip? I take turns between the two resorts during the year.
