I have read threads on here about people who travel with relatives with special needs and am hoping for some help and advice. We are travelling in july and a member of our party sister in law has been admitted to hosp with a nervous breakdown. IMO It isunlikley she will be fit enough to travel but if she is marginal would there
be be any special help available to ease the journey? Has anyone any experience of travelling with somone with a mental health issue? what is care like in the US if it is needed, are there restrictions on flying for certain conditions?
I feel we should try to let her come as she is holding onto the prospect of the holiday, but I only found our yesterday that she did not declare a pre existing mental health problem to hae insurer as she was not on medication when we booked she thought it didnt matter, I would think it would?
All in all a bad situation which is really causung problems for us all, maybe we arent meant to go!!!!!!
Any advice would be helpful:mad:

Oh dear, I really do know how you feel. We've been in a similar situation on more than one occasion as one of our DD's has long-term mental health problems but loves Disney so much!
We have been lucky so far in that we have not had any incidents while we were away. Crunch time seems to come either when we get home (anti-climax) or if we are going without her.
The bottom line is that without FULL insurance cover you are taking a massive risk and very few Companies will insure for mental health problems. We have taken the risk of DD travelling with her condition excluded from insurance cover but we have relatives who live in Northern Florida who could be called on if necessary and have only taken her when her Consultant has agreed the trip to be beneficial.
It certainly isn't for me to tell you what to do but before deciding please get as much professional advice as possible from her medical team and give the whole situation a lot of very careful thought.
At the end of the day no holiday is worth it if you are so stressed that you need another holiday to get over it!
Good luck

Carol
