Special Needs Stroller Rentals

Hello! In the past we have rented City Mini stollers for our oldest son (he is 7 right now; he will be 8 on our next trip) from Magic Strollers and always had a good experience. Last November he was just at the weight limit and a tiny bit long for it, but it worked. This November, due to some medication-related weight gain and the general growth spurt of height, I don't think we can comfortably (or ethically as renters) get a City Mini for him.

Is there any rental company that has strollers that can accommodate a 70lb+, tall child? Musts for us include a canopy like the city mini because our son uses the stroller as a way to avoid direct sunlight and to avoid crowd overstimulation and something comfortable (not plastic park rental). A wheel chair is not an option for us. If we need to buy a therapeutic stroller, we will, but we don't use strollers for any other part of our life other than Disney (we use a canopy and wagon for things like our big zoo and Six Flags).

Thanks!

Some of the baby stroller rental companies also offer a special needs stroller for older/larger kids. I think the Liberty pushchair is common as a rental. Last I checked, a couple of medical equipment rental companies rent a Maclaren Major or Ottobock. You can do some research online for models to see what might be the best option for your son.

My family uses a Maclaren Major Elite with the optional canopy. We ended up buying it second-hand because insurance wouldn't approve it for her since we don't need it for regular everyday use.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you! The Liberty Pushchair from Kingdom Strollers looks like a good fit for our needs. We have two younger ones that need to go in a typical double stroller, so it's great to be able to get them all from the same vendor. I'll check out your Maclaren recommendation, too. We borrowed a Maclaren for a trip overseas and it worked out well.

In post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there is a list of equipment rental places.
Scroll toward the end of the post to find the information about special needs strollers. That thread is stuck near the top of this board or you can find a link in my signature.

If you are interested in buying one, some people have had good luck with Craig's List or eBay.
