My wife is the one that uses this board but I am writing under her name to ask a question.

We will be leaving for Disney in two weeks, and My wife has had a really bad year - Her mom died in February after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer and my wife took care of her and now two days ago we had to put our cat to sleep. My wife is devastated and I don't know what to do for her.

I wondered if I called Disney would they give her some special magic - she's really wiped out from all these losses.

Thanks for any help you could give me. Ron

I don't know if you are taking kids, what ages, and how many, but maybe a nice "adult" night where the kids can go to a kids club or stay with a sitter. Maybe a nice dinner @ Narcoosee's or Cali grill? Or even a spa day @ the Grand Floridian?

We have a 3 yr old daughter

My sympathies... years like that are brutal.

I'm not sure that Disney can be counted on for some particular free "magic." From what I understand, it's pretty much hit or miss.

But there are a number of things you could probably arrange as a surprise.

How about booking a spa treatment? I know the Grand Floridian has some, and I know there are others out there as well.

Or a special photo-shoot of your family? Again, the info is out there somewhere.

Would your budget accomodate a room or resort upgrade?

If you're dining at the Coral Reef, you can arrange to have personalized menus. Contact Debi at the Coral Reef ASAP to arrange it.

How about one morning when you take your daughter alone, with plans to meet your wife for lunch. Let her sleep, swim, tour, whatever.

You could arrange for a limo to replace DME.

I'm sorry your wife has had such a rough year. I think it is really great you want something extra special for her on your trip. One of the suggestions was for an "adult" dinner, unfortunately, the kids clubs at WDW have the age restriction of age 4-12yrs old. You could use an in room sitter - I have seen Kids Nite Out and Fairy Godmothers recommended frequently on this board. If that isn't something you're comfortable with, you might consider arranging a special event through Pixies from Gift of a Lifetime (see here). They also do "budget events" and gift baskets - maybe surprise her with a special basket upon arrival?. I just thought I'd mention it. I also like the idea of giving her some time at a spa. The Grand Floridian, and Saratoga Springs both have wonderful full service spas. HERE is a link to the WDW site info about their spa services.

hth, and whatever you decide to do, here is some pixiedust, pixiedust: I hope your trip is full of spontaneous magical moments.

Thanks everyone, this will really help - my wife does all the planning, so now its my turn
