I have seen the new commercial for Special K a few times now. They are saying if you replace 2 meals a day with Special K for 2 weeks you will lose 6lbs. I think it sounds like a SlimFast concept. I had thought of doing something similar but using GoLean cereals. Any thoughts on this?:listen:

Tired of the :yo-yo: :yo-yo: :yo-yo: diets:wave2:
Having fun with the smilies:duck:  :cool1: :jumping1:

Ahhhh, be careful! That is, what will you do after two weeks? Yo-yo back up? Can you really live like this for a long time, eating two bowls of cereal and one meal a day? Can you really sustain this pattern?

My point is that losing weight and exercising and getting healthier is a FULL lifestyle change. You need to step out of your bad habits and into good ones. Permanently! That's why I think programs like WW works so well. Once you learn how to eat well and lose the weight you want, then you just add a few more points to your daily plan and maintain. Forever (theoretically). You keep the lifestyle change you've made, but just add back in a few treats, a few snacks, a larger meal here or there. But you stay low fat and nutritious.

I'd just be wary of something like this. There is no "wonder" drug to losing weight. It just doesn't exist. You have to eat right, eat sensibly, and exercise. Period. Tough to swallow sometimes, eh?

But you can do it! I know you can!

I tried this for a quick fix once. It was awful! By the time dinner came around, I was having a melt daowm. I stuffed myself at dinner. I tried replacing lunch. A bit better but i was still crazed and irritable. Not something I would ever try again!

Keep the Faith!

On a slightly different note, I bought a lo-carb cookbook and they suggest using Special K as a breading substitute. Currently, instead of bread crumbs, I use ground pistachios on my chicken cutlets, from the South Beach book. But I'm pretty much at goal & I'm thinking that Special K on the cutlets would be a nice change.

I agree that the two bowls of cereal as two of your three meals is not a long range eating plan. Maybe if you want to use it as jump start, like an atkins-induction or SB-Phase 1, but I would have a follow-up eating plan in place. Remember, Special K has Special K's interest in first place, your long range weights goals come in second place for them. Sorry, Kelloggs.

Special K helps me a LOT, I have at least one bowl a day along with my one or two Slim Fast meals.. Satisfies my hunger, yet only gives me about 100 calories...

I agree with the theory about not being able to follow this for life. Once you stop eating Special K for two meals a day, your weight will go right back up. The important thing about a diet plan, is to find something that you can stick to for life! Otherwise you'll always be stuck with the :yo-yo: effect. (I love the smilies too!)

And, every time I see that commercial, I say, "If you eat a Snickers bar for 2 meals a day, then one normal meal at dinnertime, you'll lose 6 pounds in two weeks!" And it's true! You're basically starving your body. The second you start eating "normal" food again, you'll gain those 6 pounds back.

Of course, this is only my opinion, not necessarily the opinion shared by WISH, or for that matter, anyone else on the DIS! ;)

I share your opinion, Rhonda. :)

Hmmm, I've been low-carbing all this time when I could have been on the Snickers diet??!! :teeth:

Rhonda I also share your opinion. I want to learn to eat healthy for a lifetime. I also want to give my body meats and veggies that will supply it with the vitamins and minerals and nutrients it needs to stay healthy. Too much of any one thing does not sound like it can supply that.

Best wishes on finding something that's right for you!

Hmmm....Snickers Diet..I like that..lol. Thanks for your input. It is basically what I was thinking. It is definately not a long term solution. Besides it would be boring after while. I did think it was interesting that they were advertising it. I'm thinking about getting a WW and a low carb cookbook from the library. hmmm me cooking...now that will make for a Funniest HomeVideo winner!!:hyper:

I totally agree with Rhonda. I have a problem with any diet that you cannot find something to eat at any restaurant.
