We're heading down there in 2 weeks with our 4 children, 3 of whom have autism. One of our sons is on a GF/CF/corn free diet and one of our daughters is on a CF diet. I've spoken to a chef there about meals but didn't think to ask this question -- yes I can call back, but i was on the disboards and thinking of it so figured i'd just ask while i'm here! :)

So we're on the meal plan. And I was told that if we have a special dietary need we just alert the host/hostess when we come into the restaurant and the chef will come out to the table and show us what is appropriate on the menu. (I spoke to the chef at Chef Mickey's but he said its this way throughout Disney.) So my question is -- our children on special diets are 10 & 6 so obviously would be normally eating from the kids menu. What happens if the only items that are GF/CF etc. are from the adult menu? Do we get charged extra?

Thanks!

Hi and :welcome: to both DisBoards and disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Go partway down Post #3 to the section on Dietary Restrictions for the best detailed information.

And I have never heard of Disney charging anyone extra for food when there were dietary restrictions.

asdmomx3,
I would love to hear what you found out about food available for a child who's GFCF and corn-free. My daughter is GFCF and doesn't tolerate even small amounts of corn derivatives, including things like dextrose and citric acid (occasional xanthan gum is OK). Trying to figure out whether to plan on preparing ALL her food while there and if/how much of a kitchen we really need while we're there is almost making me back out of planning this trip!

Hi Terry.

I will also suggest going to the disABILITIES FAQs as I recommended to asdmomx3. You will see several links concerning special diets. I don't have one myself, but I constantly see people posting about how wonderful the chefs are and that they (or their children) could eat "real" meals made in such a way as to be safe for them.
