Someone on another thread suggested that I post my concerns/questions here. . .
One of the twins cannot be exposed (to the best of my ability) to mold/mildew and dust. Due to prior hospitalization for this, if he is exposed he requires breathing treatments and prescription medication.
How and when should I let the resort know this? I'm already past 45 days and everything is paid, so I was unsure if I can put this as a request or what I should do.
thanks so much!!! He I just don't want him to get sick and miss out on any joy of his first WDW trip.

Resort Reservations: 407-939-7807* Call them today. I am not sure what type of special cleaning they could do that would keep your child from coming into contact with dust/mold/mildew. If there is something you use at home, you probably should bring it with you. If dust might send your child to the hospital, I think I would just plan to clean the room myself. I hope you have a happy and healthy trip with your family.

Just to clarify - the phone number listed above is called Resort Special Reservations (just so no one is confused).
If you made the reservation yourself, thru the usual Disney Reservation Line, you can call that number and they will help arrange for your special needs.

If you dealt with a travel agent, the CMs at that number will usually tell you to call your travel agent and have the travel agent call the make the request. That is because the travel agent actually owns the reservation until a few days before you arrive and all changes/requests need to go thru the travel agent.

Also, just so the OP is aware, because Florida is hot an humid, you can run into mold smells in places like Pirates of the Caribbean where it is humid.

Another thing to do is request to not be on the first floor - especially if you are staying at a moderate or value resort. My oldest daughter is very sensitive to mold, and tends to cough all night when we have a first floor room. I think the first floor rooms are a bit more damp compared to the upper floors, as WDW was built on reclaimed groves and swamp.

I'm trying to think of other places we encountered her 'mold alert' cough at WDW - Pirates was definitely one, and Splash Mountain too.

Beyond WDW, the worst place for mold for us has been skating rinks - and she was a competitive skater for four years. That was a challenge!

First let me say we are traveling to DWD for the first time in December. However we have spent alot of time in hotels due to having to travel for our son's specialists.

Here are the things we do to help with the dust.

- bring room air purifier (for dust), never place on the floor while in hotels though since it draws in air from the bottom. We always put it on a table.

- bring either pillows with allergan pillow casings or just the allergan pillow casings depending on room in suitcase.

- bring our own velloux blankets.

- bring swifter dusters to clean in those places they might forget. (baseboards, around both the inside and outside of the window sils, and air vents.)

I know, I know, just want you dont want to do when you arrive on vacation. However, even this will still have us giving a minimum of 2 breathing treatments a day. But we own our own nebulizer so we don't have to run the the ER. :)

Have a very fun vacation. :thumbsup2

Wow!! Thank you all so much. You are SO helpful! I really appreciate all your information and tips. I am really looking forward to this trip even more now that I know ways to keep my little man healthy.
thanks again!! :thumbsup2

As said above you can call them ( or your agent if you used one) and tell them your needs. My son has asthma and allergies and we always request the VIP cleaning for allergies ( they clean the room very very well), replace the air filter, and to remove all pillows from the room. If you tell them you have a mold allergy they will pay special attintion to places like the bathroom. Hope this helps you some.
