I have a friend named "Nanette"
Now, obviously, I grew up with her, so her name is as simple as Jane to me. But I still thought most english-speaking Americans would know how to pronounce the "ette" part of her name. "et" It's not that hard.
I can't think of a name where the "ette" is pronounced any differently. It's the same in Lisette, Bernadette, Annette, Jeanette, Bette, the list goes on.
Apparently it's not that simple.
Last week, a woman called her:
Nan-uh-tEE
Like Manatee, with an N!!!!!
I was dying laughing.

She didn't think it was that funny.
Oh, and I'm Susan. I've come across a few here and there, including the DIS, but NONE under 35.
I think the name died not too long after I was born.
