I have their personal paper trimmer. It is about 3 years old. I have used it a lot. But it isn't cutting as crisp. Epsecially near the top where the first cut is made. The CMC I bought it from doesn't sell any more and I really lost touch with her. Do they have a policy? and how would you go about replacing it? I would be lost with out one!

The guarantee on tools is 1 year from the date you purchased it. I always wondered if the blade could be sharpened...anyone else know? :confused3

Thanks Fran. Looks like I may have to order another one down the road. I will try some of the tricks I read on another site, wax paper or something like that. Not sure if it could be sharpened. It doesn't look like you could remove the blade easily.

I read somewhere about using aluminum foil to sharpen the punches that stick. I wonder if it would work on the personal trimmer. Maybe I'll try that later today on my trimmer.

I don't know if it will work on the trimmer, but the Plaid site says to use:
tin foil to sharpen a punch
waxed paper for a punch that "sticks"

I've been thinking about getting the personal trimmer. I used DDIL's a few weeks ago & really liked it! I have the large Fiskars trimmer (ruler goes to 12") & didn't see the need for a small one....but recently I've been measuring things to a 1/4" & the Fiskars is only marked for 1/2" and it's a pain to drag out & find space to use. At least with that one, I can replace the blade (circular) when it gets dull for ~ $5.

Just curious - what are your thoughts? Are you happy with the CM personal one? Do you also have a large one? Does anyone have a price list around? I just tossed mine without thinking. :(

I love mine. Can't say if the one from Mike's is just as good but I do like this one for many reasons
1. cuts well (you have to remember this cutter has been used a lot!)
2. I love the little drawer sounds silly but I put my CM round blades in there and my corner rounder and my mini tape runner.
3. The top has a cutting surface. Which you can use their small ovals and circles to cut on. Don't have to drag out the big mat.

I can't remember what I paid for it but felt it was worth the price. It still cuts at this point. Just the very top some times doesn't cut sharp. But that depends on the paper too. If I remember to push it in towards the plastic it cuts almost perfect.

If I am not mistaken its 19.50. So is the the new 12 inch cutter.

i have a 12 in trimmer from friskers that i love but it's had better days since i got one without metal guide thing it's starting to groove. I have used CMC's personal trimmer and think it's great for cropping pictures or that quick journal mat. I honestly feel for me I need a 12 in trimmer and the personal trimmer for those quick trims.

ok i went and looked up cost of personal trimmer it is $ 19.50 that is per cm site after logging into my cmc's personal page.

Thanks! I appreciate the info. I just realized, though, that it's now February! (Well, I knew it but...) My DDIL's mother was supposed to have a January party (because she really wanted the TY gift) - I wonder what happened? The last I heard was that she was still waiting for the consultant to call her.

CM just revamped the personal trimmer last year... The blade doesn't lift as high and the "holdy notch" (where you put your finger) was moved up... I love the new one!!! I use to have trouble with the old one not cutting as nicely at the top but the new one works great!!

I've never hear of any one sharping the blades on the personal trimmer..but it's worth a try...With out having a removable or replacable blade...the personal trimmers do have a shorter life span than other trimmers. The new CM 12 inch trimmer has replacable blades..and has marking for those smaller cuts like a 1/4 inch or so...something else GREAT about it is the angled marks to get the perfect angle when trying to cut at a slant....like for tags.

Thanks
I think I may try to stop at this one lady who a CMC and she has open houses periodically. I love the personal trimmer and can't imagine scrapping with out one. I use it for all my pictures.
Thanks everyone!

Spinning O read a post from a lady last night who says she sharpens her personal trimmer with the aluminium foil and it does just fine. Its worth a try.

I cut a bunch of was paper with my CM trimmer and it helped it a lot. not perfect, but it works now, that's what I needed!
