I don't know if anyone here has done this - or heard of it - but for my DD's baby shower (held at 7:30 p.m.) the "food" consisted of a "dessert bar".. It was set up on very long tables - with mirrors behind them - and white Christmas-type lights strung all along the top and down the sides..

It was absolutely gorgeous - and everyone loved it.. That was done back in 1998 - and it could be that a million people have done the same thing by now - but at that time no one had ever attended a baby shower that was strictly a dessert buffet and they found the idea quite unique..:goodvibes

Needless to say - the reason I thought of this is because I'm still thinking about those "Candy Buffets".. The photos I've seen here - and on the various links - are soooooo pretty!!

I know this would be great for my DGD's 13th birthday - because that will be a large party - but it's soooo tempting to do it this year, for her 12th.. LOL..:rotfl:

Actually - if I had been aware of this before now, I would have done something like this for the big 4th of July gathering up here at the lake - in red, white, and blue! Dang!! :headache:

I did a cookie and cupcake bar at my best friends baby shower back in March.

At my wedding reception I didn't have a wedding cake. DH and I are not into cake, but we love cheesecake. So we had only cheesecake at our reception. We had 40 cheesecakes ( with 13 different flavors) laid out on a very long table, some up on tiers, some on the table flat. Then we strung lights all around them and through them and had beautiful flower petals strewn throughout with small votive candles.

Our guests thought we were nuts (for not having a traditional wedding cake), but they sure loved it! Not a single peice of cheesecake was left at the end of the night for me and DH to take home.

And this was back in 1996.

:goodvibes Awww, I love this! I want to do something like this for my DD's 16th (in Nov 2011). I hope I have the resources by then! :lovestruc

I'm seriously waiting for someone to post pictures of a bacon/pork buffet. :worship: for anyone who does.

I'm not even a candy lover, but looking at all of those gorgeous candy buffets? Makes me drool regardless..:rotfl::rotfl:

I don't really see any issue with not having a wedding cake (or only a very small one - to cut - along with other desserts) if that's what the bride and groom decide on.. Wedding cakes are very, very pretty to look at, but I think most people would actually prefer some other dessert option(s) at a reception.. I know I would - and several others I know who don't care for any kind of cake at all..:)

I love all these new - or in some cases, "making a come back" - ideas for parties and receptions! :goodvibes
