Speaking French

Luckily for me I speak a fair amount of French so I considered it to be rude not to attempt it. I did ask them to speak slower and when they realised I was English most of the CM's switched to speak to me in that language anyway :-)

I think the basic please, thank you and numbers (when going on rides, it's easy to say the basic 1-10 when they ask you how many people are riding). Aside from that, it's not really necessary, but I found the longer we were there the more natural it seemed to be!!

When we went we said the usual bonjour etc which was always met with a smile, that way at least they know your making the effort when visiting THEIR country and not expecting everyone to speak english.

Best thing to remember is as long as your polite you should be ok.

Does anyone know any French phrases to say that we are vegetarian (eat no meat or fish) or to ask which dishes are vegetarian?

you can ask for items 'sans viande' or explain that you are 'les végétariens'. However note that in France asking for 'vegetarian' may still mean that the item is made with some form of animal broth, etc. Usually asking for an item without meat will start a conversation with your server. Also items are marked on the menu, but be careful - for instance a caesar salad at DLRP is marked 'vegetarian' but has anchovies.

Having said that, DLRP is very good choice for vegetarians, as are many local chains such as Hippo or the bakery Paul.
