Does anyone know of a good place to buy Tae Kwon Do sparring gear? my kids school wants about $100 and that doesn't include a mouth piece or bag to carry everything. i've been looking on ebay, but there is an overwhelming amount of stuff!

I PM'd you...I have a dd and ds the same age that just quit Tae kwon Do because the instructor moved.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the places but when we were looking there seemed to be a few on-line sites that sold it, along with uniforms and stuff. I wasn't real sure how the gear was supposed to look so I chickened out and bought it through the school. Next time, I'll know better.

Century has a great line of products, and it's the only company my school will use because it is so durable and safe. (We use Macho too, but rarely.) I'm not sure if you can order stuff without going through a school, but I'll see what I can find out. ;)

Actually, do you know which pieces you need? Some schools don't use shin guards or open-finger gloves, and some require forearm padding, etc. The type of rib guard varies, too. Is it the kind that slips over the head and covers the entire torso (the kind that's used in the Olympics) or the kind that just straps around the ribs?

they need the over the head chest protector, forearm, shins and helmet. they don't use gloves at all.
thanks for any info you may have!

No gloves? :scared1: Call me a wimp but I would never spar without gloves! More power to your kid for being brave enough, lol! :teeth:

In my limited searching, bestbuymas dot com seems to have the best deals. The basic rib guard is $22, forearm guards are about $14 depending on type, shin guards are about $18, basic head gear is about $20. Mouthpiece is about $1, and basic gear bags are about $17. That comes to about $100 still, and these are pretty well discounted from regular price. Maybe you're getting a good deal at your school after all. :confused3

But keep in mind, these are the prices for new gear. If you want to go used, I'm sure that eBay is far cheaper. I don't recommend used gear for the simple reason that it's likely to be damaged at least somewhat, and that can be very dangerous. Not to mention the fact that the previous owner sweat into the gear... :crazy2:

Anyway, hope I was of help! :wave2:

thanks, that helps a lot. i wonder if they need gloves as they get more into sparring heavily.
