With the decline in the economy, it seems more people are buying Spam.

Do you eat it? How do you fix it?

Not a fan of Spam. Like the Monty Python song, though.

My late DH grew up very poor (14 brothers and sisters) - too poor to even have Spam.. Most meals were rice, oatmeal, and pancakes..

So when he became an adult and discovered Spam, he actually loved the stuff!! He would eat it fried (on a sandwich) or fried with sunny-side up eggs..;)

I eat it, and not because of the economy!:rotfl:
Sliced thin and fried in a pan till crispy. Dip in soy sauce and eat it with rice!

I also make Spam fried rice...ohh, so yummy!!

One word from me:

Barf!

My dad likes it and I ate it when I was a kid. But I can't stand it and will not eat it. I'd rather be a vegetarian than only have that as a choice for "meat".

My mom always has a can in the house, she cooked it for my DS once, now he loves it! If I need to do a quick and easy dinner, I slice it, fry it and serve it with ketchup and french fries!

When I married my DH he made me promise I would never serve SPAM. Wasn't a hard promise to make or keep. For a cheap meal I'd rather have scrambled eggs and toast.

i'm originally from hawaii, we ate spam and eggs, spam with saimin, spam and cheese sandwich, spamburgers.

i haven't eaten spam in forever, but i remember liking it. especially in my saimin, yum!

a few years ago the makers of spam had a special edition of spam with special hawaiian packaging. you could only buy it in hawaii so i had my grandmother send me a few cans. they are still in my pantry.

He still loves it fried with eggs in the mornings, on a sandwich, cubed and fried and added to macaroni salad or mac and cheese..I like it every once in awhile..but it's not on my 'favorites' list..lol

DH always insists on having several cans on hand in case of an emergency. I don't know what kind of a Spam emergency he's expecting, but we're ready, doggone it! :lmao: Don't all you poor planners come looking for spam at our house when the spam emergency hits.

I do like it occasionally--just plain on bread with ketchup. Maybe once or twice a year.

I had a coupon for a free single-serving pouch a few months ago, so I decided to try it. I thought it smelled kind of funny, but decided that was the spice-part of the spiced ham. I fried it up (good crispy crusty outer layer) and tried to taste it, but the consistency was just too much for me, couple with the smell. I threw up a little in my mouth and threw out the Spam.

I am not even really sure Spam is such a budget saver, actually. I can get boneless, skinless chicken breast for $1.79 - 1.99 a pound on sale. Spam, at least in my grocery store, costs more than that.

Ah ha! So you're the one who's hoarding all the Spam!!

Thanks.. Thanks a lot! Guess the rest of us will just have to starve.. On Christmas Day, when you're sitting down to your nice Spam dinner, I hope you will think long and hard about all of the other Spam-less people who have nothing to eat that day...:sad1:

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:lmao: I KNEW you'd all be jealous of me. We may not be rich but DH makes sure I have plenty of Spam. :thumbsup2

The reason I asked was because this topic made our local news.

Hmm. With CarryAnne's stockpile & the obvious love of the stuff...me thinks I should go out and buy some Spam stock...HORMEL is going to save the economy.

According to the Spam Site (Museum section):

It is said that within the hallowed halls of the 16,500 square foot SPAM® Museum lies the sum of all human knowledge. After all, SPAM® is the cradle of civilization. It is the ultimate culinary perfection. Within these walls, all of life's questions will be deliciously answered.

Every SPAMTM Fan needs to make a pilgrimage to the SPAM® Museum. It is the very center of the SPAMTM universe. It is a necessary journey for anyone who loves canned meat

Quick Spam Fact: The Minnesota license plate says "Spam37"-the 37 refers to 1937, the first year of Spam.

Admit it CarryAnne-on the Spam site...that is you in the yellow T shirt, isn't it? The lady who says she wants to be a "spam groupie & go on tour with the Spam mobile. Whooooooooo Hoooooooooo!":lmao:

There's a take out Japanese joint down the street from our apartment. They sell musubi, aka Spam sushi. I absolutely love it. :thumbsup2
