I was in the store when I got a text message on the phone. It was from Payless and it said thank you for giving us your number. Well I didn't. It said if I wanted to opt out to click this link. Well I didn't do that either.

Is this the same as your emails where if you click on it they know they have an active number? Do I ignore it or do something?

Thanks. This is a new one to me.

The best thing is to call your cell carrier and let them know. A while ago I had gotten text spam and called my carrier. They said they knew about it and were taking steps to address it.

I haven't gotten this, but a few months ago I started getting weekly calls from some company telling me the factory warrenty on my car was going to expire. It's very annoying.

We had that too, but it was because we didn't opt out of the privacy agreement with Toyota...I called the privacy # and did the automated voice thing and selected to opt out of it and the calls stopped. They were very annoying though. We had JUST bought a 2008 car and it was March of 2008 and they were calling to ask if we wanted to buy an extended warranty......I was like nope...we're good.

Interesting; I've gotten a few calls exactly like this on my cell with a recorded message about my car warranty. I don't even have a car. I'm visually impaired and can't drive. I thought they were just a wrong number but maybe not.

From what I hear cell phone numbers are no longer off limits to telemarketers. I think this is wrong as most folks do not have unlimited voice plans. I don't believe that Verizon charges for the first minute of an incoming call so you will have time to hang up but I don't know about AT&T which will be my new cell provider soon. My Iphone is due to arrive in the mail tomorrow.

This is a huge phone spam.. It's been all over the news here... Somehow this company has gotten hold of MILLIONS of cell numbers all over the country and they keep auto dialing the numbers.. We have placed a block on the number on our house phones and I saved it on my cell and called it SPAM in the name field. The calls come to the cell but at least I just hit ignore now....

Were you in Payless? If so that is a little scary. I hate to think that they are picking up cell phone signals and getting our numbers.

One thing I did was block all premium text messages. I don't know if ATT lets you do that, but Verizon does.

They always find a new way to spams us don't they?:rotfl:

Thanks for the tip, Kathy! I can now use this in my cell phone thread against Kevin! :)

You dont need ammunition.

You're free to get whatever phone you decide to get...

It's just that you will regret it and say "Kevin was right."

I've received that phone call for months now on my cell and at work, and my work number has never been registered for anything, so I figured it was just spam.

Listen to Kevin!!!!:) I resisted thinking my Blackberry was good enough for me. I can't believe all I have missed by not having an iPhone. Now that I have one I love it.

That's interesting to know. I did the same thing, added it to contacts under "do not answer" - what's weird is I haven't gotten that call since I did that. Maybe it was good karma.
