Spaghettios......

I don't like them...never have.
But.....when my mother was going through chemo and radiation that was one thing she could eat and tasted good to her....so for that I love them ;)

I have a confession. I'm 43 yo and I love Spaghettios. :teeth: I refuse to heat them up, though. For those of you who like them cold--here is my top secret recipe. Put the can in the fridge for about an hour or so before you eat them. They are SO good.

And they were also the only thing my sister could eat when she went through radiation treatments. Weird, huh?

Mmmmmmmmmm, I used to eat Spaghettios and fish sticks by mixing the two together. Yeah Baby, that's livin'!

In college I would put a can on top of the TV to warm up - flip for a warming on the other side, then open and eat. :)

Now my children eat them - I'm sooo proud of them!

:goodvibes

When my DSis and I were little, we were enamored by the commercials adn convinced our mom to buy us some. Our Italian Nana, who lived with us, saw the can and frowned and said "disgusting" (or maybe something worse?!?) in Italian and told us kids that if we ever wanted spaghetti that we should just tell her and she'd cook it for us. We insisted the Chef Bayardee stuff was good, because, after all, the kids in the commercials loved the stuff. Mom heated it up and served it to us. One bite each was MORE than enough. I will never touch the stuff again. DH will eat it, but I avoid the fumes, just like he avoids the fumes when I eat tuna.

anyone else here think spaghettios are the just about the nastiest pasta on earth :crazy2: :crazy2:

My DH loves it and now my DD6 and DD8 love it too :sad2:
I just had to heat up a can for them for lunch and just about barfed when I took it out of the microwave. :crazy2: I had to try to hold my breath long enough to scoop it into the bowls and then hightail it out of the kitchen until they are done. That stuff is pure nastiness in a can !

I agree! My DH also loves them. Luckily he takes it to work so I never have to smell it

Hmmmm......my DS is eating them right now, the ones with the meatballs. Personaly, I'll only eat the ones with the hot dog pieces, but to each their own :thumbsup2

My kids like the meatball spaghetti-o's, I like the plain O's myself. To me they are comfort food and very yummy!

But the meatballs are yucky, they eat those garbage ones, but won't eat the homemade ones!

What's wrong with you people??? Spaghetti-Os are the BOMB!! :woohoo:

I like them with meatballs. Yum, yum, yum...

And to those of you who include Fritos and Chicken in a Biskits -- sounds wonderful! :thumbsup2

Our whole family won't touch them with a 10 foot pole :teeth:

The only reason I know how they smell is because one day I was baby-sitting and the mother gave me a can to feed her kid. It smelt like dog food.

I'd rather eat an entire case of boxed macaroni and cheese than one spoonful of Spaghetti-Os!

This thread made me laugh and brought back a childhood memory. Back in the early 1950's my father worked a summer in the Franco Amercian plant in Chicago that made Spaghettio's and the other products that are close to it. If you got my dad started on one his horror stories about his time working there, watch out! It was like pull up a chair because you were going to get an earfull. LOL!!

Needless to say we wern't allowed to eat that mess in my father's house when my sister and I were growing up. I remember him always talking about how it was one of his jobs to unload the truck when the cheese for the Spaghettio's came in. He said it came covered in a big tarp and always had mold growing on it. If you think the smell is bad in the can, try unloading a stuffy truck that a week worth's of that cheese in the trailer. He and a few others would hack the mold off with hand held axes and it was a hot and nasty job. They didn't do to good of a job of getting all the mold off because you had to hussle. You weren't given points for neatness and doing a thorough job, if you get my drift. My dad said that the section of the plant was always filthy and most of the worker's were just gross.

My dad says a lot of the cheese ended up being swept up and pushed in the mixing vat, anyway. The final straw for my dad and he never ate that stuff again, was that the workers would spit on the floor and smoke in the prep area for the chesse, that was being dragged around on that very floor. I never had Spaghettio's in my house as a kid and remember only eating them at a friends house once or twice . Now remember, this was 1950 and things are a little different today, in terms of clean work enviroments and Federal standards. Also I'm not telling an urban legend or have an axe to gind with Franco American, I'm just telling my father's experience with making them. He said that was a long summer and was never so gratefull to go back to highschool in the fall.

disneyfan67,

All I can say is YUCK! I did watch an episode of unwrapped and they did a piece on Spaghettios. The factory did look clean, so I think it's ok now. Still, I wouldn't eat them if you paid me.

That story made me want to gag almost as much as the smell of spaghettios! ;)

I guess you either love them  or hate them :crazy2: ~ no middle ground!
