without cutting off your finger?? :scared1:

Really! Hope one of you great cooks can tell me the best way to cut it in half.

Thanks!

:goodvibes

I cook it whole--- THEN cut it

What do you do with it after you cut it? My doctor has eliminated all pasta from my diet(boo hoo!) and I'm going through spaghetti withdrawals. Can you really use it like spaghetti? How long to you cook it? do you bake it?

I cut my squash the long way and then put it in a baking dish and a small amount of water seeds facing down. Bake for about 45 mins with folid on top (350). The last 15 mins I flip it over and take the foild off. After 15 mins take it out of the oven and let cool. Once cool then scrap out the seeds and then scrap your "spaghetti" out. Very good!

I do what momneedsavacy does...I stab it ala "Psycho" a few times (to let steam escape) and stick it directly on the rack in a 375 degree oven and let it bake for...ohhh, I guess 45 min? Til it is soft to the touch.

I take it out and let it cool a bit (maybe 15 min) and THEN I slice it in half. I scoop out the seeds in the middle, then take a fork and scrape at it, and the stuff comes out like strands of spaghetti. I serve it with a tomato sauce and parm cheese...or evoo and feta and fresh garlic...there is so much you can do with it...I really like it a lot!

Good luck!

pierce it with a fork a few times, then bake it at 350 degrees for about an hour... let it cool for a few minutes then cut in half.... scoop out the seed inside goo (simliar to pumpkin inside)... Then (here is the fun part) you take a fork and gently scrape the flesh with it and it'll come off in strands... I top mine with butter and grated parmasean---mmmmmm...

If you want to cut it in half first= cut a small slice off the side(the round part) then lay it on that sliced side and slice it in half. It won't roll around on you. And hold it with a Towel.

And yes I almost ended up at the emergency room last Thanksgiving due to a slicing incident so maybe I'm not the best one to ask.

Actually, java - as long as you learned from that experience ;), you ARE the right one to ask!!

And I'm not just saying that because I was going to make the same suggestion.

Thanks! You guys are so smart! It never occurred to me to me to cook it first and then cut it.:idea:

You guys rock! Thanks again!!!

It is delicious and makes a wonderful substitute for pasta. The others posted how to cook so I won't repeat but you can put sauce on it, olive oil and garlic or use a nice pesto.

power tools.:lmao:

I try once/year because it seems so healthy and fallish, but it never ends well. :scared1:

I vote for frozen boxes of squash.

good luck;)

My husband would cut it for me and clean out the seeds. Then I would put it in a glass baking dish, cut side down with about a quarter of an inch of water and cover it with plastic wrap. Stick it in the microwave for about 8 to 12 minutes, depending on the size. Then take it out and scrape out all the strands. I used butter, parmesian, pepper and mashed garlic. Oh YUMM.

I never cook it cut......I cook it whole then shred the inside when tender.

Okay, ya'll have convinced me. I'm going to Whole Foods tomorrow and get me a spaghetti squash!

Take the squash, clean it and slice a couple of base spots to keep it stable. Then with a sharp knife cut it up into small pieces and stuff it immediately down the garbage disposal.

I hates squash in any form!
