Anyone have this at the Coral Reef? I believe its in the chicken dish.

Ive never had it but looked it up online and it *looks* like mac and cheese in texture but I know it probably doesnt taste like it.

Can anyone tell me what its like?

Spaetzle is little balls of pasta dough and they pretty much taste just like noodles/macaroni.
They are a bit firmer and doughier than flat pastas since they are solid chunks of pasta rather than thin sheets.

I've never had them at Coral Reef (does it list it as covered in cheese sauce?) but they serve plain spaetzle at Biergarten and it's good.

Spaetzle isn't really dough balls, though it may appear that way. you force the dough (which is similar to a pasta dough) through a colander into the hot water without drying it....so its usually little broken squiggle-like pieces:)
Its one of my favorites.....:lovestruc

Yep, that's how we make it at home. You can serve it drained right out of the water, or you can then quickly pan fry it (in a little butter). Excellent!

We make Spaetzle at home...love it! It's essentially home-made Germanic pasta. I've never seen it on the menu at the Coral Reef...they serve it at the Biergarten, but it's not that great there, takes like regular macaroni....

I had this just a few weeks ago. I loved the spaetzel. Had no idea what it was, but loved it. ;)

I thought I read in one of the restaurant reviews - er, saw a picture of the menu even and it was on there.

I will find out on Sunday! Perhaps I dont have to get the chicken to get the spaetzle.. swap out the side that my dish comes with.

Im picky like that

Thanks all! :D

They serve it at the Munich kiosk at the Food & Wine Festival. It's ashame they serve it with nasty mushrooms because I really wanted to try it... oh well, Biergarten I come.... in 2010.
