I just lite 3 candles and said a prayer. When I saw the news on TV I just started shaking.

Once again, I learned of this situation - here first. Just as I did with the World Trade Center situation.

This is very tragic and too much like watching the Challenger breakup in 1986.

I am in shock. My dad called this morning to let us know what was going on and an overwhelming sadness came over me.

I stood outside of my middle school in Titusville and watched Challenger that day. We all knew immediately something was wrong...we knew how it was supposed to look. Today is a very sad reminder of that day and there will be many tears shed.

I hope that the space program continues on without missing a beat...the best way to honor these astronauts is to keep going!!! So many people lost jobs back in 86, my dad being one. It was the scariest time of my childhood.

Our families' thoughts and prayers will be with all of those most personally affected...especially the friends and families of those astronauts.

I was five when the Chalenger went up and I don't remember it...my daughter is now five and she probably won't remember either.

I remember last time Columbia came back from a Mission (it was at night time) and we all stood outside to watch it come in. I just didn't feel like getting up to go outside and watch it this morning.. The dogs in the neighborhood were going crazy with the barking before the boom. I guess their ears heard it first. Then we turned the news on and the NBC news crew had the video going litterally right after it happened. Some guy in the next town over said the sonic boom busted out some windows in his house. We've all been told not to touch any debris that we may find as it is POISONOUS! NBC told everyone to check around their yards to see if we could find anything and if we did to call the athorities since they will need every piece they can recover to help them figure out what went wrong. Two of the crew members were from here in Texas and the pilot gave an interview here before he took off. He said that when he goes into space and looks down at the Earth he feels a since of great happiness and peace and that it makes him feel closer to God as he looks down at His great creation. I sure hope he felt that great peace this morning along with the other crew members.

Thank you for posting about the pilots interview Princess Aurora....I just can't help thinking that for over a week they all knew that things weren't right. The debris that hit the shuttle wing at launching just could not have been good, older aircraft etc. You know that they were informed of it It does help to know that the pilot felt that way about being at peace. You want to hear something wierd? At 8:30 a.m. a lightbulb shattered from our kitchen ceiling light....just out of nowhere, and DH said that's a bad omen for today! We live in Illinois so I know the timing was not the same, but I can't shake it.

I was absolutely horrified to hear about this! I always follow the events that are going on, concerning space exploration. This seemed so sudden, and unexpected. I've been depressed about it all day!

I've been using the laptop all day and just switched back to the main computer that I was surfing the DIS on at about 9:30am where I found Dan's post about the shuttle....It was still on the page with only 4 other posts at that time....I ran to the tv and turned on CNN and never posted on this computer again....

I awoke to this tragic news this morning.

We had a speical edition of our Mon - Fri morning news tv news program with all the news of the disaster.

It is a terrible terrible tragedy.

I'm watching now on Sky News & it's shocking.

Prayers for all the families who have lost loved ones.
