I just read the shuttle was supposed to go up today, but has been delayed until at least Wednesday. That's good for me, since we are leaving tonight for WDW :banana::banana:

What can you see of the launch from Orlando? If we decide to dive over near Cape Cananveral, how much of a pain is it to get to a free spot to see the launch? (there's the budget part...)

There's plenty of places. But your drive to the beach could be a few bucks in tolls each way. And maybe a 1/4 tank or so of gas. It is 60miles each way.
I've never paid attention to where they shoot video from. But I don't think any of the places charge you. check wftv.com ... maybe there's something on there.

If it's perfectly clear, you'll see the smoke trail. It's kinda like watch a plane flying as high as possilbe, but with a big smoke trail.

I saw one launch in march or feb from the airport area. And that was cool. You could even see the external tanks fall away. And the flame was amazing against the sun setting in the west.

It's worth the drive if you don't mind taking away from disney for a bit. who knows... you could probably let the kids play in the beach for a little while... do something different.

We went down when we were at WDW in May, and we just stopped on the side of the road about 5 miles from cape canaveral. We were across the sounds from the pad, and had an incredible viewing spot!!! There were tons of cars stopped there as well. There is also a park called jetty park, but we got there at 10:30 for a 1:00 launch and it was full already
