There is going to be a potential shuttle launch this weekend. It is planned for 7:17am. Does anyone have a special place out by the space center to watch the launch. Somewhere there aren't a ton of people? ( oh right ) Any idea how soon prior to the launch you should arrive? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have yet to have the fortune of being there during a launch. I just left 3 days prior to the May launch. From what I gather unless you are arrive quite early you're not likely to find any quiet space. It sounds like traffic gets pretty bad about 3-4 hours prior. I would be happy to watch it from Titusville. Good luck, let us know what works out. :thumbsup2

I am driving up for the launch; I will leave at about 5:30am, hoping the early hour will keep the crowds down in the outlying areas. I am viewing from A1A in Titusville; do not know how good a spot we will get but anything will be OK.

I just posted this thread last night from our viewing of STS-125 on May 11th.

We watched from a couple hundred yards down from the Space View Park in Titusville and really liked the location with a nice clear view of the launch pad. We arrived approx. 2 - 2 1/2 hours ahead of time for the 2PM launch but didn't end up in our final spot until a little over an hour before lift off. The traffic on the drive over wasn't too bad and things would have been greatly speeded up by having a toll pass - that's where the waits happened. The drive back was much slower but we weren't in any hurry then. I don't have any idea if this was normal or how the different launch time would affect the traffic.

We saw an evening launch from the Space Shuttle Bridge (the bridge over Epcot Center Drive to Bonnet Creek Parkway from Epcot Backstage ) also called Backstage Lane. We were on the bus back to OKW from Epcot and the driver pointed it out to us.

We saw an afternoon launch from the MK right near the flagpole.

We should be arriving at VWL right about that time!!

Do you think we'd be able to see it from somewhere near there??
