Space Ranger Spin being redone?

I looked into this a little further and it doesn't look like this is related to the gift shop, the work are is clearly part of the ride. I have marked it in red in the image below. I still don't think it's anything major.

It's the last two rooms in Buzz Lightyear but is just HVAC and electrical nothing to do with show elements at all. It's actually kind of boring from a guest's perspective.

Yes, the HVAC part was clear, what made the permit interesting was the reference to "Andy's Room" which I had never need before.

It is interesting and it's a bit of a mystery why they call it that but nonetheless the permits posted online are only HVAC and some electrical mechanical work.

I could live without Buzz in MK.

I would like to see Disney push the boundaries again. Buzz Lightyear was a cheap simple way for them to add a ride quickly. They didn't dig too hard to create something new and visually stimulating. It's a carnival ride. I'd even go as far as to say the new spinning ride intended for HS looks like a glorified carnival attraction.

In Tomorrowland Alien Encounters was an amazing short lived attraction, but it's was something completely new. It perfectly set a tone starting while you were in line, walking in, and once you sat down. It played with all your senses immersing you in that world.

I want to see disney add something new with that much detail and originality into Tomorrowland.

Buzz isn't an e ticket but it's better than a carnival ride. I don't know any carnivals or haven't been to any that have a ride like that if you have more power too ya but its not a carnival ride. Yes buzz could've been better and we have seen them do it better in DL, then again in every other park its in.

Alien encounter is now stitch.

Disney won't be doing anything major to MK for a while because they just got done with NFL.

New and original isn't inherently a good thing. Buzz certainly doesn't set the world on fire (you can find similar if less well themed rides in a lot of amusement parks) but it is a very fun ride and I'll take that over original any day.

Stitch is the only ride in Disney World that my then 5 year old came out of and said "Is that it?"

Tomorrowland is still so popular that I doubt it will be top of the list for updates anyway. NFL is recent, but Frontier and Adventure are probably higher on the list. I mean Frontier draws based on Splash and BTMR (much as I love Tom Sawyer, I know I'm a tiny minority) and I would argue Adventureland relies entirely on Pirates because JUngle Cruise is so, so, so dated at this point. There's a ride that could do with some improvements.

I LOVE the Jungle Cruise for reasons of nostalgia. But I think a lot of it is lost on younger demographics. When the ride was created at DL, there wasn't really an option for real jungle animals, and audio-animatronics were a new thing.

Now, any kid that's been to Chuck-E-Cheese has seen animatronics on par with the ones you find in Jungle Cruise. Animal Kingdom features REAL animals -- heck, there are hundreds of zoos all across the US. My kids were a little underwhelmed with JC after doing the safari at AK and the corny humor (which I love) was lost on them as well.

I am not at all in favor of scrapping the ride, but it does need an injection of excitement to keep the interest of newer generations. At least some more interesting animatronics would be nice.

I'm not sure how you would plus Jungle Cruise without threatening it's inherent charm.

Did I dream it? Isn't there supposed to be a Frontierland upgrade coming?

Strictly a matter of subjective taste but ... I would say that Jungle Cruise, although dated, has charm and repeatability. Small World and Buzz Lightyear also charming and repeatable. Attractions like Carousel of Progress and Stitch are just not charming and not repeatable.

I guess that every theme park is bound to have a handful of stale attractions ... the trick is not to let 10 plus years go by without adding something really impressive.

I think plenty would dispute you on Carousel of Progress, though I think it needs some love and a new final scene.
Sadly, I don't think anyone will ever defend Stitch. At least it seems that Disney recognizes that Stitch the character is more beloved that Stitch the Tomorrowland placeholder.

I agree. While I don't ride CoP every time it's something that I don't think should be replaced but definitely should be updated.

I rode stitch once and came out thinking that was dumb I thought there would be more. They strap you in and I thought oh so we will spin or something nope sat there and the lights went out and some sound affects went off yay.

Don't worry, plenty of people always do dispute me whenever I take a swipe at CoP.

I don't think there's any hope for it because the show is basically a sitcom, not very well written (by modern standards) and whose entire premise is not one bit interesting or exciting to anyone.

In the 50s and 60s people were still fairly excited about the new appliances that were being offered and there was some spirit of curiosity and competitiveness over who on your street had an automatic washing machine versus an old fashioned wringer, who had color tv, who had a remote for their tv and so on. I was there in the 60s and it was pretty exciting when we got our little hoovermatic spinning washing machine, and we had to discuss which of our neighbors already had one. A color tv was literally a big deal. A digital-display clock radio got oohs and aahs.

Nowadays, who gives a dam_ whether you or anyone else has a front-loading washer, or an 80 inch versus a 60 inch TV, or whether you have a smart house? Nobody. People still like to get new stuff but it's absolutely not a matter of curiosity and excitement. And nobody is really interested in how excited grandpa was about getting a flush toilet or an electric stove, and they're not excited thinking about the appliances of tomorrow.

It's only hardcore aficionados who say that they like CoP ... i.e. the people who hang out around here. But I'll tell you honestly, my own family just made "this is lame" faces when they saw CoP, and practically every other family was doing the same thing. There was a kind of embarrassed silence and some titters that said, "who picked this ride?"

They might be able to fix the show if they made it really smart and sassy, by hiring the best sitcom writers and making it as funny as The Simpsons or Big Bang Theory or whatever you think is a hip show. And if they updated it at least every 2 or 3 years to add jokes and comments about the latest gadgets and people's attitudes toward them.

But they won't ...

We think the ride is very interesting, though not exciting. But then again, I don't think anything at the park is exciting because I've done it all so much. I still enjoy what we do, very much, it's just not exciting. Anyways, we love the show, as is. It's interesting and funny to see all the old technology and hear about it from a back-then perspective. I love how each scene is themed to a different time of year and how the style of the song changes inbetween each section. I think the jokes are funny- except one I've never understood. The part where the father says the daughter can carry the torch for Theodore if he is scared off by her costume. The video beforehand is very interesting too!

I'm sure plenty of others disagree, and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It was interesting to read the above blurb about excitement over new appliances in the 50's and 60's.

Rides or attractions like COP should stay, revamped yes but absolutely should stay as a reference and reminder of how far we have come.

This is when someone brings up the "not a museum" quote I think...

So for those who like CoP, what does it do that Spaceship Earth doesn't do better (and it could do with an update itself)?

I understand there's an emotional attachment because it's one of Walt's originals, but I don't think that in itself is a good argument for keeping it in the park.

Spaceship Earth isn't a Walt/Worlds Fair original. That's about the beginning and end of it.
Both need some love, though I dread losing Ms. Dench's audio.

For me, CoP highlights not what was new and different, but when they were so new and different that people cared. Things we take for granted that someone once upon a time found astounding.

What does 7dmt do that TM can't?
Spaceship earth is completely different.
Walt wanted to have a place people could have fun and may learn a little something about progress along the way. Maybe we should dump the Hall of Presidents too.

answer for the first question. The mine cars swing and it has great audio animatronics.

But I am on your side that CoP shouldnt go.
