Please help me solve an argument in my house. On Space Mt. do people sit single or double behind one another? If you look at the video on the Disney site it shows double but my DD says its single.

Anytime. Sorry your daughter was correct. You didn't have anything riding on it did you? :jester:

Last time I rode Space Mountain (Fall '99) it was double.

One person rides in between the legs of the other.

I am sure you don't have to ride it that way, especially if you are by yourself.

Actually, you are right. In the video, it shows SM being double but at WDW it is really single. They made a mistake and showed footage from the SM attraction at DL which is double instead of the one at WDW.

lol You should have learned to bet their socks off by now. Slave for a week or something.

At DisneyLand you ride side by side (at least when the ride is open) and at WDW you ride single file in your own seat.

You used to ride single file on a bench like a log flume where you sat between someone else's legs but now everyone has their own seat.

When was it double?

When I rode it in 1976, it was single row. I also vaguely remember having only a lap belt for the ride, and it only seated four people. I have not riden it since. It was pretty traumatic experience for my me as a 5 year. I felt like I was about to fly out of my dad's lap. I think I have finally gotten over that mental roadblock and am ready to take my space flight in November.

It was never side by side at WDW. Only at DL. As someone mentioned, there didn't used to be partitions between people and you basically sat between someone else's legs, but it was never side by side. The track would have to have been wider to support a wider car which means at some point it would have had to be completely torn down and re-built, which has never happened.

My first trip was 1994 and I always remember individual seats. I don't recall sitting between someone else's legs.

2 people sitting in one car, single file. I remember being there in 1986 on a family vacation and my sister (4 years older) and I rode SM together. We definitely had to ride together in one car. I'm not sure when they changed it, but it makes sense. I can't imagine being a single and having a stranger "snuggled up" to you like that!:teeth:

yeah,
i figure ill put in my two cents also

wdw- single file, two cars per train, three people per car

dl- double, two cars per train, four per car (if i remember, it's been a year and a half)

though, if anyone is interested in seein some - slightly blurry - pictures of space mountin with the lights on... i got some during my trip to wdw last week...

At DL it was 6 people per car--3 rows of two people per car, 2 cars per train. I assume that won't have changed.
