i heard that space mountain has new music and is darker is this true

I think that might be the Space Mountain at Disney Land not Disney World...it just opened again after a rehab.

Yeah, DL's SM has only recently re-opened from a major rehab. They gave it more of a storyline, as though it's a real trip into space and SM is a transport hub (like Star Tours?).

I was bummed when I went out to Anaheim last year and Space Mountain was closed. I hear that the ride is somewhat different there, for instance that riders sit side-by-side in the cars, and it's not the three-person "sleds" like at WDW.

ok thanks i just overheard someone saying that it was dw i hope it doesnt change i love the music

Space Mountain at WDW remains unchanged. No music there. Space Mountain at Disneyland, just reopened after a 2 year refurb on it. They replaced the track (same layout just a new, sturdier track), improved the loading for handicapped, new music, made it darker, and updated some of the queue. All in all, I think they did an outstanding job.

Leftcoaster, LOVE your signature quote! I LOVE 9 to 5!! That is what MY kids call "old school comedy" :rotfl:

It wouldn't surprise me if they did do some changes. I believe over in France, they enhanced it and called it Mission 2. I would believe sometime in the near future they should make some enhancement on Space Mountain. That's just wishful thinking though.

DLP's Space Mountain looks more like something out of a Jules Verne fantasy. Most of Tomorrowland is Verne-esque, which I guess isn't surprising. Disney has I think gone a little ways to make WDW's Tomorrowland like this too, like the way the Astral Orbiters were redesigned.

Hello.
My name is Gmax.
(hello Gmax)
And I'm scared to ride Space Mountain. :sad2:

HA HA I'm afraid not! But I'm trying to build up my confidence, as I leave in less than 30 days!!! :dancer:

We were down at Disney World this past July and Space Mountain has not changed! No new music, or lights. Just the same great ride as ever.

Glendamax....

I do not do rollar coasters (I am terrified of Rockin Rollar Coaster and even ToT :scared1: )....but I do go on Space Mountain. The drops are small, and don't make me feel sick. And, it is dark - but you can still see the track and things around you.

DH makes fun of me b/c this is the only rollar coaster I will go on anywhere! (other then Thunder Mountain - but that has no drops!)

Sorry to butt in on this thread, but I thought that you guys might know the answer. My DD7 and I are going to try to get the nerve up to ride this on our next trip and I thought that I remembered some people saying that one track was faster than another. Is that true and which one is it? My DD would be happy if we could go on the 'slower' one. Also, how does SM compare to RNRC? Thanks bunches :)

GMax- Space Mountian is very smooth and a fun ride, no scary drops, no wild sideways tilts... my 6 year old rode it and loves it.

The rehab in Disneyland is one of the best ride rehabs I have ever seen. They changed the music, but only a little, it has the same feel to it. They locked down ALL the light sources so the ride is truely dark now. They changed the stars and stuff in the sky (alas, the giant potato is gone), they changed the loading area slightly (new gates and it is now easier to transfer from a wheel chair). The track was replaced and now the ride is 100% smooth as silk. The track is also black so you can not see it in front of you. The ride no long comes to a rapid stop (ouch) and is now a very cool and comfortable deceleration. They did re theme the line and try to give it more of a space port feel, but they were all very minor cosmetic changes. There were some effects rided to the ride, unless you ride it a whole lot they might not catch your attention (not because they are not great, but because they did it seamlessly). Many of the changes made were in the original ride plans but were cut due to budget. They took my favorite ride and made it better. I hope they do the same for MK.

Neither one is faster...they are both the same. The one on the left (I believe) has more track at the end to get you around to the exit area. That is the only difference.

SM is NOTHING like RNRC. I mistakenly got on RNRC, and will never go on again. Actually - I went into shock I think after the first minute - so the rest is just a blur!! But, I do remember it was not my type of ride. :rotfl:

I am more of a DL expert but I am pretty sure the answer is the same- both tracks are exactly the same speed. They are the same ride except where one goes to the left the other curves right. Mirror images. It feels fast because it is dark, but it is a smooth ride and not scary in any way (unless, I guess, you were afraid of the dark).

My 6 year old rode SM. She is 7 now and has ridden it again and she really wanted to ride it more but the line was too long. She likes Big Thunder too (but finds that more scary). She would not even consider riding a RnRC.

Speaking of the music, has anyone ever noticed that the theme for Space Mountain (as on the DL Album) is used in part for the music from the France Pavillion (as heard on the WDW album)? The intro to SM is slowed down and made to sound more classical, but it's one and the same.

I love that SM theme btw... Very surf-music-oriented. One of my favorite music genres.
