Hello everyone!
About 5 years ago, when I was like 10 or 11 years old, I rode space mountain at mk but I was crying even before the ride and I closed my eyes the entire ride, I was very, very scared. It was my first rollercoaster. At that time, I wouldn't ride anything, not even BTMR. Now, I love rides like escape from gringotts, forbidden journey, splash mountain, jurassic park, rispsaw falls and others that used to scare me to death. However, I have returned to disney world multiple times and I'm still too scared to ride space mountain again. How bad is it really? I don't even remember now since I closed my eyes the entire ride.

It's mostly just jerky and it's very dark in there, so you don't know what's coming next. I like it, but I'll ride almost anything. :)

It's not so bad. The ride is a little rough, but you're young and it's only us old folks who come out with aching backs! If you can ride Gringotts and such, you should have no problems on Space Mountain.

My guess is your connected with that bad memory when you were little. I get that it's hard to try something under those circumstances. But I say....give it a try. It's one of our favorite rides and it sounds like other rides you've been on have had similar thrill level. You said your eyes were closed...most of the ride feels like your eyes are closed because you're in the dark but with thousands of little stars. It doesn't go upside down. I think you'd be fine.

It's my favorite ride! The beginning is fun with all the fun colors. I think it "seems" faster and hillier than it is because you can't see what's coming, but it's a ride I can't stop laughing on! I think you should do it! Make the new memory:)

Agreed 110%. I was very nervous of coasters and this was my second one ever after BTMRR, and while I was nervous I kept trying to remember "well it's only going 28MPH (I believe), you know how slow that feels in a car!" A lot of such rides make me nervous so what I tend to do is watch lights-on versions over and over again on YouTube, especially if it's a dark ride like Space, and try to really get a feel for it before I do it. If you've done and liked all those other rides, I would definitely give it another go. If you still hate it, just try to think on the ride it will be over very soon and you don't ever have to go again if you don't want. I try to keep in mind "okay this is only X minutes, I can do that, it takes me longer to wash my hair" or something like that. I find if I put it in more "real world" terms and compare it to things that don't make me nervous at home, I can handle it better. I would never lie to anyone who is anxious about rides and give them false security because I wouldn't like them to do that to me, but really I think you will be okay! I'm not a big roller coaster fan and this one is mostly easy for me to do.

Remember, if you get up to the front and back out, that's okay too! I don't like calling the last-minute exits chicken exits because to me, you're not a chicken if you can't do it (although I totally get that's just a funny nickname for the exit). If you back out, it's okay, and don't beat yourself up over it! I know I do that because I have very bad anxiety, but we all go at our own speeds. I asked a stranger to hold my hand on Everest and I also cried, last year at age 26!

You'll be fine and wish you had done it earlier. It's not really all that intense of a coaster, the only thing that make it more intense is that it's really dark inside. Kinda like doing BTMR in total darkness (or mostly darkness).

IMHO, tamer than BTMRR. Easily the mildest anbd slowest (though most uncomfortable/jerky) of all the Space Mountains. It 6yo, my DS was bored with it because he was used to SM at DL, Everest at AK, RnR at DHS, BTMRR, and bigger coasters elsewhere. He found the WDW, with its lack of a soundtrack, its lack of speed, etc. just "meh."

I love most roller coasters, including thrill ones, but i hated Space Mountain. I would be perfectly happy to never ride it again. I think the combination of jerkiness, uncomfortable seat, and darkness made it unappealing to me. Luckily for me, my other two family members agree.

It's a dark ride, closed eyes and opened are about the same :)

It's an older bumpy coaster that rocks around a lot in a dark room. not too much too it. Compared to other coasters though, it's really really jerky and not smooth. To be honest, it's time to refurb it and bring it up to date like the other properties have.

I find Space intense because it is in the dark and I can not brace myself for what is coming... similar to RnR at HS. I find it quite rough because of this. But I go on both every time (but just once)! When I start freaking I just scream... lol ... it releases some nervous energy and no one can see you anyway!

Its not the same as Escape From Gringotts or Forbidden Journey to me.... it's a coaster... like an intense BTMR. I would do it if I were you. It's the next level up. I have done the Dueling Dragons but draw the line at the Hulk and Rip Ride Rocket... I think I have reached my threshold!

I hate roller coasters. They terrify me. I'm old as dirt. I have a bad back. Bad knees. Bad knees. Mobility issues up the ying-yang. Did I mention I hate roller coaster? But I LOVE SM. and BTMRR.

Being jerky and rough is the only reason I don't ride it. It would be nice if it had a few dim lights so we knew which way we were going to avoid getting whiplash :crazy2:

Thank you to everyone for the information. I definitely feel more confident now for the next time I go to disney. I think Im going to ride it. Thanks once again for everyone's replies:)
