Space Mountain

Hi,

Have a few questions about Space Mountain.
Firstly for a child which is the more tame ride, space mountain or rock n rollercoaster?

Does space mountain go upside down? If so in what way?

Both have a height limit, and dd only on the last two visits (since she turned six) has been tall enough for rock n'rollercoaster which she loves - in August I had to make her stop after three goes in succession because I could not take any more. It is not as rough as Space Mountain, and I do not think that it is as long - although I have only been on Space Mountain once as she is not tall enough yet for that or Indiana Jones, but she wants to do Indiana because she likes the theming (I wish there was a way she could go through and see the queue).

Both rides go upside down, but I am no good at describing them, but I would suggest that Rock n'roller with the lower height restriction is probably the better one to start with.

Both go upside down, RnR twice, Space Mountain I can't remember if it's once or twice.
From the front SM was quite a nice ride, but at the back it was pretty rough. I know they have been doing refurbs on SM, but I don't know whether anything rectifies that problem.
On both rides the upside down sections are smooth, they are not particularly high loops either.
Both have fast launches at the beginning, I think RnR's was the faster.

I think it depends on how sturdy you kids are, I've seen a lot of kids on both rides, but they can both be quite a terrifying experience for adults if rollercoaster aren't their thing!

I personally preferred RnRC when we were there in October, but the beginning is quite breathtaking - literally! 0-60 in 2.8 seconds isn't for the faint hearted, but I found the ride after the start to be great. I think there is one proper loop and two long drawn out corkscrews. Space Mountain had me disorientated for most of the time, not sure if I was upside down or not! DD (11) did them both many times, trying out back, front and middle just to make sure! My DS (8) is only just big enough for RnRC (he's small for his age!) and he did it 3 times despite the beginning!

DD9 is hoping to go on RnR for the first time on our next visit.
I'm still not sure about SM2 as I think you definitely get thrown about a lot in it.

The change to Space Mountain 2 from the original if purely cosmetic, no track change or anything.

It also has 3 corkscrew style loops, and does bash your head about a bit.

The RnRCoaster i think has one loop and 2 corkscrews, but on the whole is a smoother ride, and the one i prefer

Space Mountain was a lot faster and darker - and for me, better - than I remember it being when I went on it in 2003, but as some people have said, it does jerk you around quite a fair bit.

With Rock 'N' Roller Coater, once the initial blast off is out of the way, the ride is lovely and smooth and not as dark as SM. So I'd say that was a safer bet for a child.
