Space Mountain single rider no more?

I guess I will confess my unpopular opinion and say I am glad it is gone. I hate it when we have an uneven number of people and one of us has to get squished next to some rando.
I usually end up having to travel solo, while I hate to be squished next to all you guys, I at least enjoy line jumping with the solo line… well, I did…

I am in the unpopular opinion group of disliking it at Space. It has nothing to do with the ride and people sitting by me. And everything to do with the location of the line. As someone who frequently travels with someone in a wheelchair, that line is impossible to deal with. People refuse to move to let wheelchairs past (both standing and sitting with legs extended) or they make comments about us cutting the line (we waited outside the line with a return time). And it is even worse for the DAS families without a wheelchair who really cut the comments about cutting the line. I absolutely hated that line. Others are fine - we do Racers through the single rider line all the time.

And it’s really sad that those inconsiderate single riders have to ruin it for everyone. When that line has been backed up and I see a wheelchair coming and I realize I could potentially be in the way I move, no questions asked. Those in wheelchairs should not be discriminated against, I’m sure they already go through enough. You never know what someone’s actual situation is so the fact that some single riders treat those in wheelchairs like garbage is so terrible

Thank you. :)

Could you not sit with another in your odd-numbered party rather than being the one put with someone else?
I don't like SR at Space. Rest of the rides are fine, but I don't like it for Space because you are seated closely with a stranger in the dark. My daughter frequently takes my granddaughter (10) and grandson (5). Because he is 5, they want my daughter to sit with him. That leave the single rider next to my granddaughter (when she was as young as 7). She has gotten good at asking that if they are going to put a single rider with my GD, they put a female there. Often, they leave that seat empty though.

Ugh, I never thought of this, but I'll be in the position one day with my two boys. I would not want a strange adult sitting next to my young kid.

Seems like they could just have a minimum age for single rider.
Well other parents might not be bothered by this. I'm all for less rules when possible!

But the issue is not kids in the single rider line. It's an issue of one adult riding with two younger kids on an attraction where you can only seat two together AND there is a single rider option that might put an adult stranger next to your second child for several minutes in the dark. Probably nothing would happen. But then again, it doesn't feel comfortable to me.

I'm glad someone mentioned it because this is a ride I will be skipping when visiting with my two children alone.

They do. It's 7yo. But a child riding in front of a parent (like when a parent has 2 children with them) isn't considered a single rider.
My granddaughter has rode as a single rider since her 7th birthday (it was what she asked for for her birthday.). But Space was one ride we didn't let her do. Usually, she just does Matterhorn and Goofy's SkySkool.

We've let one of our grands do single rider at 7. The other one is on the autism spectrum and got scared/anxious/worried at the idea of not having one of us right there with him. Our next grand has his first trip in 3 months; he's heard his big brother talking about single rider lines and is excited to go on rides by himself. (He's a big talker, ha. The moment he realizes I'm not right next to him, he'll totally change his mind. But I'll let him daydream about it! )

SR on Space isn't my favorite. I have no issue being so snuggly. I just don't like sitting next to skinny little young kids. I'm scared to death they're going to fly out. But it's not my kid, so I can't really throw my arm across them! :rotfl:

It's insane any parent would trust random stranger to sit alone with their child, and 7 is very young. Attractions have downtimes a lot too, they could be alone for hour+ and a 7 year old having to evac down flights of stairs.

I'm not a 'helicopter parent' by any means- and grew up playing outside/alone with friends until sunset. However my parents would never just hand me over to some random adult at a theme park and say goodbye. (even if they wanted to at times 😂)

I let my granddaughter ride at 7, although at first is was with her aunts/Disneyland Girlfriends (2-3 teenage girls that live local that come to help me with her as I don't do many rides.). Her first rides were where one would single ride first, she would be second, and then another after her, to make sure she made it on and off. First rides were Matterhorn, where I could see her, could see which side she was on, and be at that exit when she came off. They (girls) would discuss all the things that could go wrong (mainly estops) and how we would be there waiting for her. Now (at 10) she is allowed to single ride Matterhorn, Goofy's Sky Skool, and Splash. (SHe has been going to DIsneyland 4-6 times a year since she was 2 with me.) She is turning 11, baby brother is turning 7 this year, and they have adopted 2 more (9 and 10) so single rider may have a few more joining the lines.
