Space Mountain Safety Bars

glad someone posted this as I am also kinda scared to ride this with my daughter when we go in a few weeks.. she is 11 1/2 and has been to six flags and ridden lots of roller coasters but i'm always next to her so having her behind or in front of me also scares me a little but I remember my sister rode this back when we went in the early 90's and she was fine. . but i'm still a worry wart lol

thanks to the person who posted the pictures of the restraints its nice seeing what they look like.

^ I knew I remembered that! I also remember sitting in a parent's lap directly, which I always thought was odd. I guess that was the "bobsled" aspect of the Matterhorn ride system.

I thought the actual seatbelts were strange for a roller-coaster because the ones at our local amusement park had lap bars or shoulder restraints.

This is what the current T-Bar restraints look like on Space Mountain at WDW:

Last time I was on it I put the bar too close to me and had to get a CM to help, that was embarassing  I do think it's gotten a lot rougher more recently

T bar in the lap. If she is of the correct height she will be fine. Believe it or not, nobody has ever fallen out of the seat.

Disney has only ever had a handful of serious guest injuries in the last 60 years and if you actually read those reports, either the injured person was doing something stupid (putting fingers in the water on a boat ride) or had some underlying medical condition that no one could have predicted.

Disneyland had 2 guest deaths that were not due to any action or medical condition on the part of the guest, one was the Big Thunder derailing and the other was a cleat that flew off the sailing ship because they had used the wrong rope to tie the ship down and the cleat tore off and hit someone. I'm not aware of any at WDW (although there were several that involved cast members.)

Ok I too remember the seat belt! I remember going ages ago when I was like 9- and sitting in my dad's lap. I remember I hit him in the face with my head multiples times while being jerked along !

Do you think a seven year old can sit safely on her own?

My 7 year old son was fine. He was tall enough at 5 (just at the height then), and he was fine at 5 as well. He didn't like it at 5 though. I wouldn't say he liked it this time at 7, but he at least didn't mind it this time and was willing to ride it again with his older brothers.
