Space Mountain Refurb

it would be nice if they would announce it already if its suppose to be down for most of next year...

It has been a rumor for the past 3 years...so it is starting to become one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" rumors. Personally I really hope it happens, it's time.

Same here, I know a lot of people like it for the nostalgia but the ride is very outdated.

I think it needs a rehab desperately although I love it because it's classic. But I'm getting just a tad tired of the whiplash from it because it's getting so rickety.;)

The last 'rumour' I heard was it would be down from January until September....I hope it's not true as I'll miss out on riding it.

It shut down twice in Sept when we were there. The 2nd time I was on with my 6yr old and we came to a halting stop. Then after about 2 min in the dark the lights came on and we waited another few minutes until a cast member came and gave us a push so that we could coast back to the unloading area. It was pretty cool to see what the ride looks like with the lights on.

I hope it finally happens! EVERY time I go to ride Space it breaks down. It truly never fails and its just gotten to the point where I don't want to waste a FP for it, even though they are good about honoring your FP if it happens. But I hope the fix it like they did in Cali!

I think it is also time. We have actually skipped it our last 2 trips because it is so rickety and rough and we do not like the "Bobsled" seating arrangement. At Disneyland the seats are side by side and it makes it more comfortable, and we are average sized so I imagine its near impossible to get in and out of for Pooh sized people. I hope when they do the refurb they switch over to the side by side seating arrangement.

Disney just released their corporate earnings report. They missed most of their projections, and their outlook for the coming year was even more bleak. If they ever had a refurb in mind for Space Mountain, no doubt it has been postponed until late next year or 2010 and beyond. It's simply not in their budget to be doing anything to that attraction anymore, not if it cost $10 million and certainly not $100 million.

I would be shocked if they announced anything to the contrary.

If it was going down in January Chances are yuod have Heard it by now . Usually with a Major rehab they give at least 2 or 3 months notice
If you havent head anything by the end of This Month Chances are it wont even happen Then.. Stay tuned

Updated rumor I came across today...

"Unannounced, but also on the boards is a quick, not the full replacement that was rumored, refurbishment of Space Mountain; a new "Little Mermaid" attraction for Fantasyland; and a general makeover of almost all Fantasyland facades perhaps even relocating a few of the land's attractions. Those all appear to be proceeding with work beginning in early 2009."
