I know that Space Mountain has been closed for some time now at Disneyland for refurbishment but i was wondering what kind of refurbs. they were doing. I have read on different sites that all that was being changed was the waiting areas but on other sites i have read that the track was being ripped out and totally replaced to utilize the space in Space Mountain (no pun intended). I was wondering if anyone might have more information on this. Thank You.

The entire track is being ripped out and replaced. The track will be exactly the same, but there are rumors of new effects. I just read over on Laughing Place that the reopening date floating around at the moment is November 2005.

I found something interesting although i'm not sure if its true...there is a rumor going around that Space Mountain could possibly start outside of the mountain, like the one in Europe, and end outside of the mountain too. The supposed starting/ending point would be the boarding area for the old peoplemovers (can't remember what the name had been changed too) .

What a wasted opportunity. DL's Space Mountain was quite good, but installing the same track again seems like a big waste of money to me.

"For our 50th anniversary celebration, we present to you, after years of refurbishment, the same old, same old Space Mountain".

For those who haven't experienced Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris, I can tell you, it blows the original away. It is comparable to Rock-n-Roller coaster with a space theme and its own with musical soundtrack. You blast off from outside, so the transition from light to dark happens almost instantaneously, giving your eyes little time to adjust to the darkness, thus enhancing the visual effects. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the originals, but given the opportunity it would seem a waste not to "upgrade" them using newer technology.

Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I saw a travel channel special where they talked about the reason for the change in the format of SM in paris. The designers wanted more of a Jules Vern (from the Earth to the Moon) feel. They wanted you to feel like you were being shot from a giant cannon. I think (from what I have heard) that they got pretty darn close.

Also, does anyone know when it will re-open; I will be there over Halloween and would love to ride it.....
