My last trip to DLRP was way back in 2005, We have a load of rides to catch up on. In perticular this little number

I rode Space Mountain in 2005 thinking it was like the WDW version that time and had the surprise of my life! I recall going at crazy speed and corkscrewing and stuff

Whats changed in this new version? Is it tamer, wilder, or the same ride all dressed up?

Space Mountain - De la Terre à la Lune, re-launched in 2005 as Space Mountain - Mission 2. When some aspects of the origonal ride were changed. The smiling moon seen in the original has been replaced by a supernova in the process of exploding. Many visual effects have been replaced, such as the projection of meteors, molten ice of a comet, and the emergence of a "hypergate/ vortex " with whirling lights. A constellation of stars on the move also appear in the dome of the ride.

There is now a countdown in French when the cannon fires. Trains also are now fired from the bottom of the cannon, wheras originally trains stopped at the bottom of the cannon, then moved to the top of the cannon, and then launched.

The track has not been altered, but many riders say the ride is more rougher that is was before. There was also a new soundtrack for the ride written by Michael Giacchino, who was also responsible for the Synchronized On-Board Audio Theme in the versions at Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.

There was a BBC programme about the launch of Mission Two which can be found on Youtube called Shoot for the Moon.

^ Have you posted that before?? It seemed really familiar when I was reading it :confused3

It was my first time on this and it was awesome.

Far better than the Orlando version.

It's still a good ride, but I have to admit I preferred the themeing of the first incarnation. I can barely hear the music now, whereas that was a major part of the first version and I definately miss the smiling moon!

Plus I'll agree with the comment that the ride seems a lot rougher now. I think that is something to do with the design of the cars, especially the shoulder restraints. I always come off the ride with sore shoulders/upper arms, having taken a real battering, yet I don't have this problem on Rock 'n Rollercoaster in the Studios, nor any other looping coaster I've been on, including the original SM. Weird huh?
