It's been 4 years since i've been on Space Mountain, but I remember that there is a right and a left lane...which is better and why?

As you approach the area where the lines separate, I like to go to the right. This side seems smoother to me.

I agree with both of you -- the right side is smoother, the left is wilder (more fun IMHO). We have ridden multiple times in a row on E-nights and have confirmed this. However, the CMs will tell you that the tracks are the same, just mirror images of each other. Must have something to do with minor differences in how the track is laid...

We both agree that we both like the left. It seems more fun!

The left is more wild. Also the last seat in the car is more wild than the front.

Ride it Twice!;) Once on each side

You can NEVER ride Space Mountain too much
By the way--I like the left side better.
When we were at MVMCP, my DD and I had whole train all to ourselves on the left side . Lots of air time!

Try to get in the front car too, OMG - it really feels like your flying into blackness when you don't have anyone in front of you:bounce:

Right side is a bit smoother but I cant ride this ride without the music. Disneyland plays rock music (kind of like Rock n Roller Coaster) during the ride sometimes and (in my opinion) it makes the ride 100 times better. Without the music, I get sick.

No music at DL on 2/20. Opinions were it was breaking down too often so they just turned it off.:(

The left and right sides of this ride are definitely NOT the same. The do remain identical in track configuration until near the end of the ride, at which point they take different turns in order to get the train to the unloading station. I actually counted the direction and # of turns near the end of the ride for both sides (I know, I'm such a geek) because my DW had told me the two sides were different and I didn't believe her.
IMO, the left side is better, since it seems a little wilder--as many people have stated above.

Right side is better. More dips, There is even a hidden suprise. A BIG DROP.:earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

Right... always right, if you can get it! Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 we end up on the left:(

I never really thought it would make a difference but I guess we must have been on the right side the first time we went... I thought "is that it?" and did go on it again until last year. We went with another couple so I really didn't have a chance to say no. We, by chance, got the left side and WOW!!! What a difference. It's back on my "must do" list :p

My question on Space Mt and for that matter Big Thunder Mt is how much head room do you have. Can a taller person raise his arms. It always seemed to me that if you do not duck down you are going to get your head ripped off (I know that is part of the thrill). Does anyone know what the height is.

Thanks

They do seem very close to identical, but i'll definitely try for the left side when I go. Thanks for all of your great responses!

We prefer the left.....although Space Mt. at DL beats EITHER side of WDW, IMO. ;)

To me, they seem about the same (as far as drops) but the left side seems "jerkier" and rougher on my neck.
I have noticed that if you ride with a group of heavier set people and sit in the back, you feel the drop more on either side.
