Space Mountain/Indiana Jones what age?

DS went on Space Mtn the month after he turned 4, 2 years later he is still saying it's his favorite ride. It was the yetti in Matterhorn that freaked him out enough to not ride a second time that trip.

I would put him on Indiana Jones, but not Space yet. I am a little cautious when it comes to the kids though. This trip, I will let me oldest ride Splash, the runaway train, Indiana Jones, Star Tours, and maybe Tower of Terror for the first time. He will probably love them all. My 6-year old is a little nervous, so I will probably just do the train & Star Tours.

Hi
My husband and I are in disagreement about our son going on Indiana Jones and Space Mountain now that he is tall enough on our upcoming trip. He will be turning 5 while we are there.
I realize every child is different but I was just wondering about a general consensus.
I think he will be afraid of the dark in Space Mountain and the pyro + giant snake might scare him in Indiana, my husband thinks he will be fine.

Also, my son is autistic. He is high functioning so he is not easily over stimulated and he has gone on many things that I wouldn't have thought he would ride and done fine (Matterhorn, etc.) but never the less it is a factor that I am thinking about.

I am more concerned about Space Mountain than Indiana (maybe he might like that one), but with SM being in the dark I don't think he will handle it well.

We were just there last Monday-Friday, and our youngest son is now 5. We've been to DLR many, many times over the years, but this was his first time riding SM. He really liked it, he wasn't frightened at all.

He's not quite tall enough for Indy yet, but I'm glad. I think it's too intense for most 5 year olds, autistic or not. It's extremely loud, and the sound effects are meant to be scary. In fact, the entire attraction is meant to be scary. We took our 2 nieces along on this trip, ages 8 & 9, and although they LOVED every other ride in the parks (with exception of TOT), the 8 year old actually cried during the Indy ride. She was fine once we got off of it, but it really did scare her (and I had done a lot of explaining as to what to expect before we even rode it -made sure she understood it was very loud, and very dark in spots, that there were special lights that made it look like bugs crawl over the walls, etc.) I was hoping she wouldn't ride, but she really wanted to.

My own 5 year old son loves TOT, and POTC, and HM, and every other ride he is tall enough for in the parks. But I really, really think Indy is too intense for him at this point.

This really helped my kids, especially my older son. My dh was worried I was ruining the surprise for them, but I found they enjoyed it a lot more when they knew what to expect.

I totally agree with the youtube ride through videos. My kids don't deal well with being surprised, and enjoy something far more if they've had the chance to see what it's all about in the safety and security of home. Some may say this ruins the magic, but for us there would be no magic at all if we didn't see the ride beforehand, as we would be sitting everything out....not very magical.

Isn't Star Tours closed now (I know it will be on my trip in two weeks)

My mom and grandmother and I took my brother 2 years ago and he was 7 at the time. Mom took him on Space Mountain first thing and he was absolutely scared out of his mind to the point of crying when he came off of it. Then we went on Indy and he LOVED it.His favorite ride at Disneyland actually.
