I thought it was common knowledge that if you want to stand on a walkway or escalator to stand to the right, walk to the left. Of course, we live outside of a city with a metro so maybe I have a different perspective. I think that people just don't know because it's not something they do on a regular basis. I don't think that people stand on the left to be mean but maybe I'm wrong.

OP here...

I couldn't agree more with the posters saying people should stand to the right. It's just common sense! Also, don't think when people are in my way I become some angry monster. It may be 15 seconds (it's not really though), but still, that's my 15 seconds that I could use doing something else! And sure, I can ask people to let me through, but most of the time (not always though) I get someone who gives me dirty looks or completly ignores me!

Anyways, I'm glad to see some people feel the same way!


P.S. dna1990, I couldn't agree with you more about the sidewalk issue!

I don't care whether people walk or just stand & ride it out, but what can be annoying is when people feel the need to spread out across the whole thing and cause a traffic jam. Other than that it's all cool w/ me.

YEP!

I mean, it sounds really good (NOT) to be condescending and imply that people who really would appreciate if folks would have the courtesy to at least stand on one section of the walkway so that others can pass are really uptight folks who are unable to slow down and enjoy the journey. The fact is, you're trying to excuse your rude behavior (entirely blocking a walkway) by condemning their behavior (complaining about your rudeness). Sorry, don't buy it. Your momma may not have taught you manners, but eventually you're expected to "get it." Hey! I don't OWN the walkway just because I paid for my ticket into this place! How 'bout I get the heck out of the way!

Similar and even more annoying are the massive groups of people who stand on the moving walkways leading to and from the Universal parking garages.

There are no animatronic dinosaurs to gawk at there. It's a WALKway, you should be walking. Would you stop and stand in the middle of the crowd exiting Fantasmic?

I respect and thank everyone of you that are gracious and well mannered enough to stand to the side.

If people want to look at the scenes, that's fine, but please move to the side so others may pass. I can't even count the amount of times I've looked at them. If someone is blocking the way, we politely say "excuse us." No biggie.

As with all the same people who get in front of me on the freeway in the left lane - I think many here missed the point.

I think it is great that people have a need or want to take it slow and absorb the walkway, I really do - just flippin do it from along the right rail.

Don't even get me started about general sidewalk use at WDW or anywhere. Just because you are in a group of 2, 3, 8 - does NOT mean you all get to walk side-by-side. And don't you dare stop in the MIDDLE of any walkway to talk, look at a map, daydream, or do whatever it is you do.

No matter where you are, simply move out of the way of traffic, is all I or the OP ask.

I absolutely agree with this. Do you remember when you were in kindergarten and first going to school? They told you to always walk down the right hand side of the hallway, single file. Everything seems to be about staying to the right (except at WDW where the left queue is always shorter than the left )

Anyway, even at the mall we are "pull over so I can look at this (map, picture, phone, checkbook, cute girl, cuter purse)" people. I may ride the walkway but dang, don't I hate people who stop dead in the middle of a sidewalk with no warning....can we equip them with blinkers?

Disney seems like a really big place....until the people in front of you keep you from where you need to be next.

I mean quit your crying. Either politely ask to get by, or learn some patience. That's what's wrong with too many people in the world today. They are all in a HURRY. It reminds me of tailgating while driving somewhere. Folks will come up behind you, ride your bumper, then pass you at the first opportunity like they are running from someone. Then inevitably, you pull up behind or beside them at a stoplight. WOW ! You really accomplished something...

So why is it respectful to completely block the walkway? I don't care if you stand and wait but to me it is disrespectful to me to block my way. Just move over and stand as long as you want and let the folks who want to walk to walk.

It is much longer than 15 seconds, probably a couple of minutes if you stand still the whole way.

I'm just curious, because I honestly don't know.. But it it considered a walkway? I always thought you just had to stand on it and let it go. I wouldn't want to walk past anyone actually.

I completely agree with you! We live in a society where it's all about ME. I have somewhere to be now, so you need to move aside for me. I think that is why people get so stressed at Disney. Just relax and enjoy life. Life is too short to worry about things like this. Enjoy those extra minutes to talk to your family and ask how they liked the ride. Or to take a moment and enjoy being at Disney!

We stand there, and look at everything, since everything is on one side of the ramp we are generally turned to the side which means others (except perhaps those in wheel chairs) can get by us easily, why walk the ramp? It is part of the attraction in my opinion, take it all in, slow down and enjoy!

I'm a little mystified by the posters telling those of us who prefer to walk to "slow down and enjoy our trip." I enjoy my commando trips very much, thanks, and if I'm racing around all hopped up on adrenaline and excitement, that only adds to my version of fun! Nobody's asking you to do things our way and walk -- why tell us to do things your way and stand? Let's share the walkway, with the standers on the right and the walkers on the left, and then everybody wins.

Different strokes for different folks. There are those of us (and several mind you) that visit WDW at a commando pace and those of you that go at it at a leisure pace. Neither one is the right way. They are just different styles. Remember some people can only visit once in a lifetime and need to see it all. Some live in FL and can go all the time. Some only have a couple of days. Each style of guest should try to accomodate the other without flaming.

Space Mountain is more than just a roller coaster, it's an attraction. Part of the attraction is the exit that has some cool visuals. I'll offer nothing more than a very sarcastic apology if my desire to experience the full attraction interferes with your desire to skip part of it.

Sooooo if I'm walking at Disney with my wife I can't walk next to her? Does this mean EVERYBODY has to walk single file? It's a vacation not school. Next thing you know we are going to raise our hand and ask Mickey if we could use the bathroom. If somebody ahead is walking slower than you go around or say excuse me. Whats the big deal.

Oh by the way. We do the parks commando style. If someone gets in the way we go around.

Yeah, I think we'll just keep standing and letting the belt take us up the hill. But then again, my knees and ankles really don't like walking up steep hills, so what can you do?

Oh that's right. You can call me names from behind me because I'm not walking like the teenage boys the last trip. I do ever so enjoy being called "fatty" and "lard butt" (only not as nice) because I'm not moving at the pace you want me to!

Sorry guys, I agree with the OP.
The exhibit is great, but theres no need to study it forever when there are better things to do at the Magic Kingdom and some people like myself don't have WDW vacations that last for 2 weeks so everything is kind of rushed.
Flames to me as well, I suppose.
I'm ready for them.
