I have dreamed of going to disneyland ever since I was a kid, now for my honeymoon my wife and I are planning a trip to disneyland. I could not wait until I heard that space mountain was going to be closed until the fall. Now we are thinking of not even going, because that was the main reason we were going to disneyland. Is there anyway somebody could give us an update on the opening or soft opening of space mountain. It means so much to us we are going to be there from june 12-june 16th 2005 and right now we are really dissapointed we already have our hotel booked and everything, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Scott and Teresa

I heard that is was suppose to open by May 4th for the DL birthday celebration.

i Have heard many things, but could anybody confirm them, before i book my flight, cause if that's the case we may wait til november to have our honeymoon, or is the wait for space mountain not worth it in your opinion.

No, sorry, no confirmation on any of the rumors. Offically DL is still saying Fall 2005, which is an improvement from Nov 2005.

My feeling is that it will not make it for the May 5th kick off, but more likely would make it for the July 17th park anniversary.

Congratulations on the honeymoon though.

There are so many rumors about the date of Space Mountain opening it isn't funny. The best that i can determine is that....
It was suppose to open in November 05. They are supposedly investing lots more money in order to try to get it open by Disneyland's actual birthdate July 17th. At this time it sounds like they are a few weeks behind.
In any case there is no more rumors that have it opening anytime before July.

Yeah from what Ive heard is that they are *trying* to make the July 17th birthday but that may not even happen. I wouldnt hold your breath for anything before mid July

Personally I think rescheduling for just one ride is kinda silly but I do DL about 3 times a year (the last 4 without Space opened) and although I like Space its not even that great of a ride (IMO) (its a disney best but not a high speed major roller coaster IMO)

No one really knows, they are not giving any kind of date to the CMs. All that is being posted is TBD. My guess is only those working on it will have any sort of idea.

I am also waiting to hear more about the opening date before I book my vacation, currently planned for the end of August. As others have said, there is no official word on anything other than the original Fall opening in November. I would guess that the earliest would be July 17. Just so you are aware, June 12-16 will be crawling with local kids on school field trips and there may be early closings for grad parties. Since you have never been to Disneyland, I don't think you should make your decision based on Space Mountain. There are a lot of factors to consider. If you wait until fall, the crowds will be smaller but there may be other rides closed. (It's always something....)

that's a good point, but you see i'm kind of obsessed with space mountain, even though it is not the greatest coaster in the world we are into theming rides more than thrills. And we are just curious since we have been to disneyworld and disneyland paris the difference between the different space mountains. we live in orlando, we could always spend a night in daytona beach overnight for the honeymoon and then wait a couple of months to go to california for the real trip. what are your thoughts on this.

Scott

In that case maybe you should wait. I think that the fall would be a better time to go anyway. That is what I would do if I could, but I have a middle schooler and can't afford to miss any school (I have taken my kids out of school before and it has not been good). SM has been closed for a couple of years so they are doing a major 21st Century upgrade and I am anxious to see it also.

I would wait. Space Mountain has been closed for 2 years already and major renovations sometimes taken longer than expected.

I think waiting is a good option, if you want to wait until Space Mtn opens. Also, there are incentives (like 3rd/4th night free) at many hotels in October/November, so you'd probably be able to budget more then, too.
