I hear that space mountain is going to be changed into a freakin' upbeat, light, stupid space thing just like in freaking california. A little note to the disney people... Us people who go to disney world are going there because we LOVE the way WDW is. You don't need to change it to try and get us to come back. We LOVE it just the way it is, if it wasn't we wouldn't be going there two, three times a year!! and, no offense to the california people, but we are not like them and we LOVE space mountain the way it is!!!

Oh, and if you take carousel of progress out there will be NO forgiveness and absolutely NO pity whatsoever given to for taking/changing these wonderful attractions that were meant to stay with disney world until it closes. Walt would be so ashamed of everyone who wants it changed and i believe the way he wanted it is the way it should be, becuase he knew what is best and you OBVIOUSLY DON'T!!!!!:headache: :headache: :headache:

Don't worry. This has been a rumor circulating online for about 3-4 years now, I think if they were going to refurbish it anytime soon, we'd already know. :)

I have been going to WDW all my life and I LOVE Space Mountain.
I was able to go to DLR this spring for the first time. Their Space Mountain is fantastic!!! It's basically the same ride with really great music. ::yes::

I'm a Disney fan and I love the classic rides just as much as the next person.
But DLR's SM is a great way to update an attraction without overly changing the experience that the classic ride has. I'm interested in other people's opinion on this.

Let's not have a flame session, just share your thoughts:goodvibes

Sorry OP I have to respectfully disagree with you. I would really like to see them update SM, if they make it like the one in DLR.

I've been on both and DL is way better. You can hardly see the track and you really feel like you are riding in the stars. The cars are 2 seats across rather than back to front (more comfortable) and has music speakers. I like WDW better for most things but Space Mt is better at DL.

I always considered myself a Space Mountain purist. How many hours did I spend on our summer trips trying to decide if Alpha or Omega was the better ride???? Loved it, even when forced to sit between the legs of a stranger. Eww.

Fast forward 30 years to my 1st (and probably only) visit to Disneyland. The family and I headed straight to Rockin' Space Mountain. Yay! 2 people ride next to each other!! Yay! the loading area has a cooler theme. Yay! The music that accompanied the ride was fabulous!! (Red Hot Chili Peppers--Keep on Rockin'--that may not be the correct song title.)

It was still a dark ride and there may have been some lasers or something, but it felt like my favorite ride I loved forever, but only better!!! Really!! I would love to see a refurb at WDW. :rolleyes1

Don't strike me down, Walt.

I'd love to see them add the wheelchair accessibility of the SM in DLR. :thumbsup2 Plus I've heard very good things about the DLR version and would be happy to have it done to the WDW version.

I wouldn't mind a refurb, it definitely needs one.

Though, I do NOT want one with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. What does that have to do with space? - That's what I love about Space Mountain, the ambient space music (at least in queue, or am I going nuts?).. the stars.. the eerie feel to it.

I'm sure the one at DL is a terrific ride, but no way would I want the RHCP singalong ride. If they did, they might as well call it Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Staring the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What if they re-vamped it to be like the one in DL-Paris?!?!

Hubby and I were there a few years ago and LOVED it, vey "Jules Verne"!

I don't think they should do the "rockin" version because there is already Rockin RollerCoaster at MGM.

The RHCP soundtrack was only used for a special promotion that took place at the beginning of 2007. It ended in May of last year and Space Mountain at DLR currently uses its old instrumental soundtrack. :)

Heard on the rumor section on WDWRadio that it looks like it might be going down in January for around 10 months.

We found space mountain REALLY DULL. We'd seen Space Mountain in Paris on the t.v and it looked amazing. We went in Florida and it was like you wanted to scream, but it just wasn't scary or exciting enough. Was so glad that I had fast passed it and hadn't waited in the hour and a half queue. If we had waited for over an hour for that, I would have been really annoyed. I was really disappointed in it. Don't think I'll bother this year unless there is a really short queue. It could do with an up- date.

I had 2 trips to Disneyland in 2000, and I spent a lot of time on Space Mountain, it was really really cool, it had a different soundtrack then, it was the surf guitar one (it's on the Disneyland 45 Years of Magic cd) which really fit with the ride.

I went to WDW with my mom as a grad present in 05, and I was really disappointed with space mountain there, it was 2 tracks instead of 1, so there was already a lot less free space, but then I was even more disappointed during the ride, it didn't wind freely through the building, it reminded me of a cheap compact roller coaster at a really small theme park, stacked next to a mirror image of the same thing. The ride was rough and didn't fit the space theme at all. It was just a roller coaster in the dark, kind of; I could see all the supports and other parts of the track, and only the ceiling with the projected stars and planets (that I found really cheesy, Disney can do better than that!).

The one in Disneyland circles around the building and gets up some pretty good speed, the track is almost invisible, so all you see is stars and glowing rockets (the other cars with blacklight reactive paint) zooming around.

Needless to say, I've only ridden Space Mountain at MK once, and I don't have the desire to ride it again until it's changed.

Oh, phew, that's good to hear :wizard:

At least for me, others probably preferred it. That said, I guess I won't mind a change... I love the idea of two seats per row, instead of that one uncomfortable seat that feels like a bag of bricks (not to mention small, especially for a 6'3" male).

I actually really enjoyed DL's update on Space Mountain. I would be glad if they did it to WDW's Sm.

I had a chance to view the CM website while in florida. I can attest that the rehab has been scheduled, although it is aways away.

I think the Space Mountain at Disneyland is much better than the one at Disneyworld. I'm sorry to disagree with the OP but I would like it if they re-did the one in Florida.

I wouldn't mind.....I think it's good to update things every once in a while!

We went on the COP for the first time in May and I'm glad we did it once but i don't think I will go on it again so if they did take it out I wouldn't mind but I do think that they should just keep it there....I like the song from the ride though and I heard the tune being played in the MK when we were walking towards the castle.I was so happy to finaly figure out what that tune was lol.

Just watched the new one at disneyland on you tube and it does look better. I hope they change it.i think it would be cool.
