Can someone who may know more about this (if it happened) explain this further?

My wife is telling me that she read somewhere that people were claiming that in August or September (roughly) they were at Space Mountain and heard a loud crash while waiting in line and that they then cleared the building of guests and gave fastpasses to some as they left. They then claimed they saw a stretcher being taken in.

Does anyone know about this? I was telling my wife it was probably another one of those myths and never happened.

Does anyone know? I'd love to disprove her on this one.

Ooh, I'm subscribing for any info!

I know that Space was hit by lightning around that time but didn't know anyone was injured. It knocked out most of Tomorrowland if I remember correctly.

When were at MK in October, they shut down Space Mountain practically for the whole day. We were in line around 10.30am and were given FP for 11.30am. We returned at 11.30am and were told to come back in an hour.

We came back in an hour, and the ride was still shut down. The place was swarming with CMs! We checked in again at 2pm and again at 4pm. Finally, at 4pm, we got on the ride.

They didn't give any explanatino for why it was shut down the whole day except that they were experiencing technical difficulties.

Now this is along the lines of what I was hearing. This is slightly concerning as it sounded like an actual vehicle accident (whether it be small or not).

I want to subscribe for any info, too. My family is going in December and I want to take DD9 on here. princess:

It wouldn't surprise me. My grandmother broke her back riding space mountain MANY years ago (before 1985) and my mom would never let me ride it because of that. My DH recently went on it with my 6 year old and he said it is a very rough ride, that there is 1 dip in particular where people hit it really hard.

I didn't hear about any accidents, but I bet they happen more often than we realize!

Its' truly one of my all time favorite attractions. I can't get enough of it, and while Im a little "tougher" (at least I like to think) and have never been hurt on it, I can see how some could get some minor injuries on it.

My wife came off of it recently with a badly bruised right knee from a hard turn.

I think alot of it just goes with it's age and technology. Today these same coasters can be built without narely a bump. However, I almost think it wouldnt be as fun if so smooth. But then with the roughness comes risks.

Or it could have been a ride sensor malfunction... You can't jump to conclusions like that.

As Goofyfreak stated if there was an accident it would have been all over the news... As a CM at MK, other than the lightning strike that was mentioned there has not been anything major that I have heard of (and news travels fast amongst CM's)...

I did read an article a few weeks back that described an accident on SM. I'm sure you can find the article by doing a simple online search. The article was printed in a site where they list injuries in theme parks. (I read that before trips...just to be safe) I'm sure you will find it if you search for it.

This is true, except if there were no injuries you likely would not hear anything. Remember that Disney is one of the few companies not required to release accident information if they choose not to.

If one person was in that building when an accident occured, we'd all know about it by now.

That's right. That's where I've heard this story. My wife saw it on another message board and 4 people in that thread alone were there and witnessed it.

I am the one discounting that it was an accident but someone here already stated something that there may be validity to the story.

Im surprised you fail to think that it's in the realm of possibility.

Also, you do realize that Disney is NOT required to release any information they choose not to right? If there is no significant injury, it's most likely that they wouldn't release any information.

There was nothing about this on local news. Normally, they report just about anything that happens at the theme parks. It may be that Disney isn't required to report accidents, but with all of the CMs living in the Orlando area, it is difficult to believe that it would not get leaked to the media. It must not have been anything major or I'm sure we would have heard something.

I asure you that there was no accident at Space Mountain at WDW. But there was an accident on the one at Tokyo Disney Land and Disneyland. Also, in late August or begining of September, an ex-cast member climbed to the top of Space Mountain at Hong Kong Disneyland and threatend to kill himself with a knife to his neck!
