Does anyone have an update on the Space Mountain Construction?

Sorry, no I do not. Some were hoping for an opening shortly after the 50th kick off in May...not happening, things are just not moving along as quickly as anticipated. Major bummer

I wonder what "type" of construction/changes will be made. Just returned to WDW and rode space mountain. There was NO space mountain music during the ride!!!! ahhhhh! That is one of my favorite parts of the ride.

Of course I had to ask, and was told the new cars don't have speakers! ugggh! Hope they don't think about putting new cars without speakers at DL!!!

DL's Space Mountain is getting a new soundtrack, so there will be speakers and I imagine they'll work better than the old ones did. I only heard the music around once in every 5 or 6 rides.

They have torn out the old track completely (it had apparently deteriorated in the extreme) and replaced it with new track. It is still the same layout though. There will be new effects inside though it sonds like it is confined to minor new sets and loads of lighting changes. The music accompanyment is rumored to have a certain soundtrack during the day and change to Rock music during the evenings.
